Salary Range: Up to $35/hour.

Job Summary
The PREP Lead Instructor is responsible for supervising summer instructors, program assistant mentors, and students. Lead instructors are also expected to attend necessary professional development, oversee student attendance and instructor gradebooks. Lead instructors will also lead weekly staff meetings to provide program updates and requirements. Lead instructors must maintain regular communication with parents, students, and staff. The PREP program will take place during June and July 2026. Candidates must be available for the duration of the program; specific dates may vary.
This is a temporary position dependent on availability of funds and/or departmental need.
Core Responsibilities
- Be available to work a full seven-hour workday, Monday through Thursday, and two-hour workday on Friday.
- Ensure implementation and staff compliance with all policies and procedures required by PREP program. This includes health and safety, personnel, and all other pertinent regulations.
- Attend and deliver required professional development trainings prior to program start date and ensure training of all staff, as per orientation checklist and program policies.
- Arrange and conduct Parent Orientation Meeting prior to program start date.
- Coordinate Opening Day Orientation and Closing Day Assembly; Organize student symposium and campus tours.
- Teach integrated STEM courses when needed due to teacher absence. Instruction will be delivered in person Monday-Thursday at your assigned campus.
- Oversee and ensure a safe, disciplined learning environment and supervise student discipline by identifying root causes, and document behavior infractions.
- Facilitate Program Assistant Mentor (PA) sessions on Fridays.
- Oversee student lunches and food distribution (submit forms to SA Food Bank on a daily basis). Must attend food training at SA Food Bank prior to program start date.
- Organize and/or develop special project days for students in conjunction with your program assistant (PA), if applicable.
- Lead all staff meetings.
- Provide both the instructors and their PA with clear and concise grading procedures and a description of the value of program components.
- Distribute and collect all student quizzes and exams from instructors.
- Ensure that instructors grade all homework, quizzes, exams, midterms, finals, and distribute student surveys; submit grades on a regular basis.
- Provide instructors with all supplies needed in preparation for their class.
- Compile gradebooks, attendance, and final grades from all instructors to submit to PREP administrative team.
- Consult with the appropriate PA on the status of their students on a weekly basis.
- Inform instructors, PAs, and students of your standards and expectations.
- Follow the same rules and guidelines set for the students, PAs, and Instructors as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Regularly monitor classrooms and assist instructors and PAs with curriculum implementation. Visit classrooms on a weekly basis.
- Attend regular PREP administrative team meetings and responsible for overall program reporting.
- Be receptive to other responsibilities, as requested by PREP Administrative team and assist with general program needs, as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Valid Teaching Certificate.
- Supervisory experience leading teachers and/or staff.
- Experience in teaching K-12 students.
- Experience implementing and delivering instructional materials and evaluation tools.
- Experience teaching STEM related courses.
- This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior PREP experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Blackboard or a similar LMS.
- Proficiency in inquiry-based learning pedagogy.
Working Conditions
- Ability to travel to assigned campus Monday-Thursday to oversee in-person instruction and student field trips.
- Two-hour workday on Friday.
- Classroom and campus environment.
- Ability to actively monitor classrooms and student activities.
- Works with sensitive information and maintains confidentiality.
Physical Demands
- Distribute activity materials to instructors and/or PAs as needed.
- Facilitate student lunches and ensure lunch area is clean after student use.
- Exerts up to 5 lbs. of force occasional.
This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
