"Principal Lab Assistant"

Position Summary:

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Principal Laboratory Assistant for the department of Neuroscience & Cell Biology at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Performs the routine work involved in cleaning and sterilizing of laboratory equipment, as well as a variety of general laboratory services, for the RWJMS Basic Science Departments (N&CB, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Pharmacology).

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Cleans, dries and sterilizes glassware and other washable items in accordance with the proper procedures and techniques. Distributes and stores sterilized items in accordance with established procedures.
• Operates and performs simple maintenance on equipment utilized in the washing, drying and sterilizing of glassware.
• May assist in the mixing of simple chemicals and solutions and in the conduct of experiments.
• Performs duties involved in the general cleaning and daily analysis / maintenance of equipment rooms.
• In case of radioactive glassware, separates from regular glassware and cleans and/or hand washes, as required.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Three (3) years of related laboratory experience.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs.
• Work Environment: Laboratory environment. Moderate Noise.
