Principal Research Associate in Neuropathology (Honorary Clinical Contract) (Part Time, Fixed Term)
Principal Research Associate in Neuropathology (Honorary Clinical Contract) (Part Time, Fixed Term)
Applications are invited for a part time Principal Research Associate in Neuropathology (Honorary Clinical Contract) at the University of Cambridge, Department of Clinical Neurosciences, Cambridge Biomedical Campus, with responsibility for scientific strategy of the CUH Brain Bank.
The Department of Clinical Neurosciences aims to understand the nervous system in health and disease in order to develop new treatments for incurable neurological disorders. Our research portfolio spans from the investigation of molecular and cellular function within the healthy nervous system through to translational research developing new therapies for incurable neurological diseases. We have an active program of brain donation, particularly from those in long term clinical, imaging and phenotyping studies.
The neuropathological analysis of post mortem brain tissue is of high importance for progress towards better diagnostics and therapeutics for dementia and neurodegeneration, including Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia, progressive supranuclear palsy and Huntingdon's disease. Neuropathology enhances the value of current and planned research programs in the Biomedical Research Centre, and Dementia Research Institute, including but not limited to the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, and adds value to our long term natural history cohorts underpinning biomarker discovery, and treatment studies, clinicopathological correlation, validation of advanced imaging techniques and novel biomarkers, and maximum insights from targeted treatments in consented research cohorts.
Successful applicants will have relevant expertise and an interest in addressing fundamental questions in neuropathology. They will be qualified clinicians, with demonstrable experience in both clinical and research environments, with notable experience managing tissue repositories and access arrangements.
