PROFESSOR IN PYROMETALLURGY
The Department of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering at Aalto University School of Chemical Engineering invites applications for the position of PROFESSOR IN PYROMETALLURGY. The position can be filled at any level of the Aalto tenure track system (assistant, associate or full professor). The position is full-time and, depending on the positioning on the tenure track, either on fixed or permanent term.
The position and our expectations
Aalto University has a unique competence in process metallurgy, with competences covering all parts of the metallic raw materials value chain, from minerals processing to purification and recycling. To complement this expertise, we are looking for a world-class academic leader with strong expertise in high-temperature processes for the position of Professor in the field of Pyrometallurgy. The position is placed at the Department of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering and aims to support one of the key research areas of Aalto: materials and sustainable use of natural resources.
The Professor in Pyrometallurgy will be responsible for the teaching and development of educational activities at the Bachelor, Master and post-graduate levels, including theoretical courses and laboratory practice. The Professor will conduct research in the field of high-temperature extractive metallurgy, with an emphasis on material- and energy efficient processing of raw materials, recycling, processing metals from low-grade and complex primary and secondary resources. It is also expected that the Professor in Pyrometallurgy will be proficient in the utilization of experimental methods, as well as digital and modelling tools in research and education. In addition, the successful candidate will play a key role as part of the national metallurgical ecosystem, involving academic and industrial partners.
It is expected that the Professor in this position will directly influence activities on the sustainable use of natural resources, metals refining and recycling and the development of disruptive technologies towards sustainability. Thus, your responsibilities will include:
- Attract competitive funding to initiate research projects on metallurgical refining and recycling and utilization of low-grade and complex raw materials
- Produce high-quality research that can be published in peer-reviewed journals
- Teach at bachelor and graduate levels
- Initiate and execute research and education projects of an interdisciplinary nature
- Integrate new interdisciplinary concepts from research output into educational activities, programs, and curricula
- Disseminate research results to various interest groups including professionals, students, and academics
- Contribute proactively and collegially to the progress of the school and department and its international visibility
- Possess practical expertise in societal activities, industry collaboration, entrepreneurial promotion, interaction with stakeholders and collaboration with decision-makers.
Your experience and ambitions
A doctoral degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is a prerequisite for the position.
