Wheaton College’s nursing program is searching for a Professor of Practice to teach Medical-Surgical and Pharmacology/Pathophysiology for Fall 2026. We seek candidates who share our commitment and passion for educating the nurse of the future to care for others in a meaningful and practical manner that aligns seamlessly with Wheaton College’s mission and its strategic vision for diverse and inclusive excellence. The Faculty member is responsible for teaching pharmacology/pathophysiology content across the undergraduate nursing curriculum, with an emphasis on safe medication administration, clinical decision-making, and application of evidence-based pharmacologic principles to nursing practice. Students will be able to express this objective through a newly established Nursing Department that combines intellectual rigor with experiential practice and a deep understanding of social justice, equity, and global connectedness.
Evidencing a commitment to teaching excellence:
- This faculty member is responsible for teaching didactic and/or clinical courses in community health nursing across the baccalaureate curriculum.
- The faculty role encompasses teaching, student advising, service, and scholarship consistent with the mission and values of Wheaton College and the Nursing Program.
- Evidencing a commitment to teaching excellence
- Evidencing continued growth as a practicing scholar;
- Participating in the governance of the program and college, including work in standing, ad-hoc committees, and task forces
- Serves as a member of departmental committees
- Participating in the development of a written curriculum plan for Nursing;
- Participating in the regular development, implementation, and evaluation of academic policies in Nursing;
- Participating in the development and implementation of a written systematic evaluation plan of all components of the nursing program;
- Teaching the number of courses prescribed in their contract letter;
- Evaluating student achievement of nursing competencies;
- Providing advising to students in the Nursing program;
- Completing an annual evaluation
- Other responsibilities determined by the Office of the Provost and the Dean of Nursing
Minimum Qualifications:
- A current MA RN license in good standing
- A minimum of an earned Master’s degree in Nursing
- A minimum of five years of full-time Medical-Surgical and/or pharmacology nursing experience
- Evidence of clinical competence in the area of clinical instruction
- Evidence of ongoing and progressive professional development in academic and professional communities appropriate to teaching responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- A current MA RN license in good standing
- A minimum of an earned Master’s degree in Nursing
- A minimum of five years of full-time Medical-Surgical and/or pharmacology nursing experience
- Evidence of clinical competence in the area of clinical instruction
- Evidence of ongoing and progressive professional development in academic and professional communities appropriate to teaching responsibilities
