Professor of Practice in Sport Management
Job Description
Syracuse University's Department of Sport Management in the David B. Falk College of Sport invites applications for a Professor of Practice position to begin in Fall 2026. We seek an accomplished sport industry professional with extensive practical experience and a commitment to translating real-world expertise into exceptional undergraduate education.
The Falk College of Sport is the nation's first and only college at a high-research university focused exclusively on sport-related disciplines. This reflects Syracuse University's strategic commitment to sport as a focal point for interdisciplinary scholarship, innovative academic programs, and transformative student experiences. The Department offers a B.S. in Sport Management and a B.S. in Esports Communications and Management with additional programs in development.
Qualifications
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in sport management, business, or related field
- Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive leadership experience in the sport industry
Job Specific Qualifications
- National recognition or thought leadership within the sport industry
- Executive-level or senior management experience
- Active professional network within the sport industry
- Experience developing industry partnerships and/or experiential learning opportunities
- Prior teaching experience at the collegiate level
- Demonstrated excellence in professional practice with evidence of significant industry impact
- Experience across multiple sport management topic areas
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Areas of Expertise

- Intercollegiate athletics administration

- Sports media and content creation
- Esports management
Responsibilities
- Teach six undergraduate courses per academic year (3 per semester) in sport management
- Develop and deliver curriculum that bridges industry practice and academic theory
- Mentor undergraduate students in their academic and professional development
- Maintain active engagement with the sport industry to inform teaching and student opportunities
- Facilitate student connections to internships, career opportunities, and industry networks
- Provide service to the department, college, and university
- Collaborate with faculty across campus and industry practitioners
- Participate in department initiatives, events, and student programming
- Contribute to curriculum development and program assessment

Pay Range
$100,000-$150,000
Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months’ salary unless otherwise specified.
