The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Stonehill College invites applications for a Professor of Practice in Theatre to support our new and growing B.A. in Performing Arts with a Theatre concentration. We seek a collaborative artist-teacher with significant lighting and set design experience who will also serve as Production Manager and Technical Director for the Stonehill Theatre Company season.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic, supportive department and contribute to the continued growth of the Theatre Arts program. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, production, mentorship, and program development.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Design scenery for the Stonehill Theatre Company season (2 productions).
- Oversee set builds and technical implementation.
- Potential Light Design for Stonehill Theatre Company productions.
- Serve as Production Manager and Technical Director for all theatre productions.
- Teach a 4/4 load (with releases), based on departmental needs.
- Possible courses include Stagecraft, Set Design, Lighting Design, Stage Management, Theatre History, Acting, Movement, and other areas of expertise.
- Mentor and supervise students in technical theatre and production areas.
- Maintain the scene shop, Hemingway Theatre, and other Theatre Arts spaces.
- Manage Hemingway Theatre facilities and operations.
- Provide lighting and sound support for two annual Dance Department recitals.
- Participate in recruitment and outreach efforts for the Theatre Arts program.
Education & Experience
- Significant professional experience in scenic and lighting design, with technical direction expertise.
- Commitment to collaborative program building and service to a growing undergraduate program.
- MFA in Theatre or equivalent professional experience preferred.
