Professorship in Religion, Business Ethics, and the Economic Order
Position Description:
Harvard Divinity School (HDS) invites applications and nominations to fill an open-rank professorship in Religion, Business Ethics, and the Economic Order. This professorship aims to promote the study of the mutual influences of religion, business, and economics, attentive to ways that religion shapes, guides, and challenges practices of production, exchange, and distribution. We welcome applications from scholars who approach these questions historically, sociologically, environmentally, ethically, and/or conceptually, with attention to any of the geographical areas, cultures, and religious traditions of the world.
Excellence in teaching and research is required. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to HDS curricula, including the multi-religious Master of Divinity, the Master of Theological Studies, and the Master of Religion and Public Life, as well as the Doctor of Philosophy program jointly offered by HDS with the Committee on the Study of Religion in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. We also expect willingness to collaborate with colleagues in other Schools at Harvard, particularly Harvard Business School. Familiarity with forms of analysis that address inequality, race, gender, class, and social location is presumed.
Basic Qualifications:
Excellence in teaching, scholarship, and research is expected. The doctoral degree must be held by June 30, 2026.
