Program Director - Medical Assisting
General Summary
The program director will collaborate with the Associate Dean of Health Sciences to plan, organize, administer, and evaluate the Medical Assisting instructional program. The director will assist students in accessing learning and attaining educational goals; instruct and facilitate learning by providing varied learning experiences and teaching in instructional modalities as assigned; and professionally represent the college, its role, and mission. The program supervisor will perform duties and responsibilities in accordance with college policies and procedures and accreditation standards.
Essential Functions
- Provides administrative direction and programming of development and goals of the program, division, college, and external partners. (Including industry partners and early college entities) Provides guidance to faculty and/or personally selects; develops and maintains instructional material, e.g., textbooks, course packets, tests, audio visuals, etc.
- Recommends for hire, orients, trains, directs, and evaluates performance of and, when necessary, recommends discipline or discharge of subordinate personnel. Assists subordinates with difficult employee and/or student relations problems.
- Recruits, trains, and mentors program instructors.
- Monitors and improves instructional effectiveness, e.g., establishes program goals and objectives, researches and recommends new techniques/concepts, conducts program reviews, meets regulations/requirements of accrediting and regulatory bodies, etc.
- Implements and interprets policies and procedures, e.g., researches and resolves inquiries, ensures fulfilment of staff and agency contracts, ensures completion of appropriate forms.
- Maintenance and active engagement of the Program Advisory Committee.
- Determines faculty course assignments; analyzes faculty workload and determines workload modifications when necessary.
- Prepares and submits interim reports and self-study materials as requested.
- Recruits and selects new students. Maintains admissions requirements for the program and recommends changes when appropriate.
- Monitors the general effectiveness of the program by continuous review of program evaluation tools.
- Supervises student on- and off-campus practicum rotations at health care providers including hospitals, etc.
- Provides and oversees student academic advising, e.g., goal setting, registration, program transfer, application for graduation, employment search.
- Serves on college committees
