About This Opportunity
The Program Director, PoW and Strategic Initiatives, leads and provides oversight over UQ’s Cyber Security program of work and associated strategic investments and initiatives, that enhance the University’s cyber security maturity and resilience.
The role ensures alignment with UQ’s Cyber Security Strategy, Technology Master Plan, and broader institutional objectives, fostering collaboration across UQ’s cyber stakeholders including Information Technology Services (ITS), AUSCERT, faculties, institutes and external partners. The program delivers strategic outcomes that strengthen UQ’s digital resilience, safeguard sensitive information, and enable the University to meet its teaching, research and community engagement objectives securely and effectively.
This role reports to Director, Cyber Security, within, ITS.

About You
- Qualifications and training equivalent to a postgraduate degree, preferably within Business, Project Management or Information Technology, with extensive experience in leading large, complex technology or cyber security programs in a large and complex organisation OR an equivalent combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience.
- A functional understanding of the cybersecurity discipline and ecosystem, including the ability to apply industry knowledge to achieve key deliverables without requiring deep subject matter expertise.
- Excellent consultative, verbal communication and interpersonal skills, particularly as demonstrated in the successful development and management of relationships, with a significant capacity to persuade and negotiate with vendors, clients and stakeholders across all levels of the organisation
- Demonstrated experience in successfully delivering complex cyber security or technology transformation programs within large and complex organisations, ideally using accepted project management methodologies
- Demonstrated experience in managing complex program (projects), including defining scope, developing timelines, allocating resources, and ensuring timely delivery of milestones.
- Demonstrated experience managing and motivating teams to deliver successful outcomes within defined timeframes
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of the leadership team and to develop, articulate and sustain a shared vision
