Description:

Manages the day-to-day operations of a small or medium-sized university program or department. May supervise staff employees, student workers, programs or processes.

  1. Plans and develops procedures for administering a small or medium-sized department or program.
  2. Oversees program expenditures and ensures adherence to budget.
  3. Provides guidance to subordinate staff and evaluates performance.
  4. May prepare or participate in the creation of abstracts, research reports, funding proposals, operations and procedure manuals, and other written material and documentation.
  5. Reviews reports of budgets and activities.
  6. Prepares ad hoc reports as needed.
  7. May administer grants and grant-related related communications, scholarships and other operations.
  8. Develops, implements and maintains appropriate policies and procedures.
  9. May serve as property custodian for the department.
  10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications: 4-year degree in a regulatory or compliance-related field or experience in research oversight administration or regulatory compliance/ethics, and a working knowledge of current conflict of interest regulations.

The department would like to include the following additional posting description:
This position manages the research conflict of interest (rCOI) program and the associated standing faculty committee at the University of Houston. This office and committee ensure that annual and award-specific COI certifications and disclosures are submitted by all investigators and reviewed for any potential appearance of, or actual, bias in research results. The committee is also responsible for establishing appropriate management plans, reviewing monitoring reports, and reporting to federal agencies as applicable. The role will involve creating/updating policies as regulations change and making significant contributions to cross-Division and/or cross-campus working groups aimed at redefining regulatory processes.
The ideal candidate will possess a 4-year degree in a regulatory or compliance-related field or experience in research oversight administration or regulatory compliance/ethics, and a working knowledge of current conflict of interest regulations. High-level communication (both verbal and written) and customer service skills are essential. The role requires meticulous, detail-oriented work to improve productivity and reduce errors. Candidates must demonstrate robust organizational, scheduling, and time-management skills for effective task prioritization and project completion.
Research faculty and staff are considered the key clientele of this position; significant and routine interaction with the UH Office of Contracts and Grants (OCG), the Office of Technology Transfer and Innovation (OTTI), and other Research Integrity and Oversight (RIO) staff is also expected.
