DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Director of Dual Enrollment and Outreach, serve as a liaison to K-12 districts, campus departments, and community organizations on matters related to outreach, recruitment, special admit students, and dual enrollment coordination; participate in campus and community events and activities; assist in setting priorities for marketing, solicitation and showcasing college programs and services.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Develop, plan, and organize a variety of student and community-related programs, events and activities, city and organizational fairs, festivals, campus activities and meetings. (E)
  • Assist in coordinating career pathway programs in collaboration with external partners.
  • Support the implementation of Antelope Valley College’s CCAP/Dual Enrollment program and Special Admit Students in collaboration with K-12 districts and other internal and external partners. (E)
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategies to promote attendance at Antelope Valley College and higher education institutions. (E)
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategies to promote recruitment and retention at AVC including but not limited to high school orientations, registration events, instructional service agreements, MOUs and welcome week activities. (E)
  • Coordinate the dissemination of college program and service information and the financial aid process to a variety of populations via presentations, direct mail campaigns, telephone campaigns, etc. (E)
  • Serve as a liaison between prospective students, current students, and college departments. (E)
  • Serve as a liaison to community groups, organizations, other higher education institutions, high schools, middle schools, and/or elementary schools. (E)
  • Provide specialized assistance to high school teachers and administrators, AVC instructors, departments, students, parents, and the public involved in the program. (E)
  • Plan and conduct student, campus, and community events. (E)
  • Attend and participate in community, city, and organizational fairs, festivals, meetings, and committees. (E)
  • Assist in the maintenance of a database of prospective students and community contacts, provide follow-up activities, prepare handbooks, public relations materials and policies to assist and aid in enrollment-related activities. (E)
  • Maintain up-to-date program promotional materials, including program websites. (E)
  • Assist in office record keeping and filing activities, assemble data and prepare reports, maintain a variety of equipment and inventory. (E)
  • Recruit, train and provide work direction to student ambassador corps including but not limited to initial and on-going training, meetings, office duties, and off-site staffing events. (E)
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technologies and tools that support recruitment, retention, and enrollment management. (E)
  • Some travel is required.
  • Special duties/assignments may include student training, supporting other student services departments, maintaining site equipment, and providing faculty support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and training or at least two (2) years of work experience with high school and college students and/or target groups in marketing, public relations and information campaigns; experience giving oral presentations.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Driver’s License and current auto insurance as required by state law.

This is a categorically funded position; continued employment is contingent upon continued receipt of funding.

  • Higher education in community colleges, including the mission of the California Community Colleges.
  • Principles and best practices in dual enrollment, special admit, student outreach, recruitment, and retention.
  • Participatory governance within the California Community College System.
  • District organization, operations, policies, and goals.
  • DEIA principles, cultural competence, and growth mindset.
  • Strategies for engaging and supporting high school and college student populations.
  • Onboarding, registration, and enrollment processes in a community college setting.
  • Principles of communicating and collaborating effectively with diverse students, faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Current technologies, personal computers, and associated office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and/or database software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Banner, CCCApply)
  • Data tracking and record-keeping techniques, including use of spreadsheets or databases.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, including professional grammar, spelling, and formatting.
  • Customer service and interpersonal communication in diverse educational environments.
  • Principles of training, onboarding, and providing work direction.
  • Concepts of recruitment, marketing and public relations.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Proper lifting techniques.

ABILITY TO:

  • Interpret and apply relevant codes, regulations, and enrollment policies (e.g., CCAP agreements, Ed Code).
  • Apply district and student services policies, procedures, and objectives in daily operations.
  • Work a flexible schedule involving evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
  • Understand and explain college and dual enrollment curriculum and requirements.
  • Understand and explain key student services processes, including financial aid and enrollment.
  • Successfully represent the District by communicating both verbally and in writing to small and large groups of students, faculty, and the public.
  • Safely set up and break down equipment and materials for events and presentations.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Train, supervise, and provide support to a team of student workers.
  • Communicate effectively in all methods of communication with diverse populations.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and activities/meetings both on and off campus.
  • Participate in and represent the college at off-campus community outreach events, including planning, setup, and interaction with diverse audiences.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective work relationships with a wide diversity of students, faculty, staff, and community members in an atmosphere of collegial decision-making and demonstrated consensus-building skills.
  • Work equitably and effectively with current students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds in order to promote equal access to all programs.
  • Develop professional relationships with local businesses, industry, government, and educational institutions.
  • Effectively communicate with co-workers, other departmental staff, external communities, federal and state agencies, other community colleges, students, faculty and staff, and the general public.
  • Operate standard office equipment and tools.
  • Travel within the service area of the college.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold.
  • Required to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • May require driving to off-site locations for events, meetings, or presentations.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during events or outreach activities.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent movement, including walking between work areas and event locations.
  • Physical ability to set up and break down displays, tables, and other outreach equipment.
  • May require bending, stooping, or reaching during event preparation or office tasks.
