Programme Director, Oxford Quantum Institute

The Oxford Quantum Institute (OQI) is launching—and we’re seeking a dynamic Programme Director to help shape and deliver this major new initiative. OQI will position Oxford as a leading international centre for quantum science and technology, connecting world-class researchers, industry partners, government, and global collaborators.

This post is fixed term for 4 years with the possibility of an extension subject to funding.

As Programme Director, you will join the senior leadership team and report to the OQI Director. Working closely with the OQI Director and Steering Group you will support the strategy and establish the Institute’s core operations. You will oversee budgets, space, and key relationships across the University; lead fundraising and development activity; craft compelling grant applications; and build strong partnerships within Oxford and beyond. You will also drive OQI’s engagement, communications, and events, ensuring the Institute’s research and achievements are shared with both internal communities and international audiences.

Your role will also include supporting OQI’s governance structures, preparing reports, and coordinating committees to ensure effective decision-making as the Institute grows.

We are looking for someone who brings an interest in or background in science, the ability to grasp complex material quickly, and who commands credibility across academic, industry, and policy settings. You will excel at leading high-level discussions and negotiations, thinking strategically, and shaping major initiatives with national impact. A commitment to inclusive leadership, together with experience in fundraising, marketing, or business management—ideally within higher education or the third sector—will be essential.

You will have exceptional written and spoken communication skills, the ability to build strong relationships, and confidence working with senior stakeholders, donors, researchers, and the public. Strong organisational skills, adaptability, and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently are also crucial. Experience working in large or research-intensive organisations, along with familiarity with tools such as Adobe, Google Workspace, or Microsoft Office, would be beneficial.

If you are an inspiring leader who thrives in a fast-moving, collaborative environment, this is a rare opportunity to help shape the next century of quantum discovery and innovation at Oxford.

Only applications received before midday 16 January 2026 can be considered. You will be required to upload a supporting statement, CV and details of two referees as part of your online application. Any further enquires may be directed to recruitment@physics.ox.ac.uk.
