Department description

The Centre on African Philanthropy and Social Investment (CAPSI) at Wits Business School is a leading research centre that advances knowledge on African philanthropy and social investment and is committed to developing a new generation of African researchers, academics, and experts through its academic programmes, research, publications, convenings, and other initiatives.

CAPSI seeks to appoint a programme manager for special projects responsible for the strategic and operational management of CAPSI’s flagship and innovation-driven projects, including the Conversations on African Philanthropy Podcast, the Kisima Giving Platform, and the Annual African Philanthropy Conference (APC). The role entails leading programme design, implementation, partnership management, and innovation across these and other emerging initiatives/projects.

The successful candidate will ensure alignment with CAPSI’s strategic objectives, promote visibility and impact across Africa, and cultivate cross-sector partnerships to position CAPSI as a continental thought leader in African philanthropy and social investment. This role requires strong leadership, communication, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills.

This position has an attractive remuneration package and conditions of service. The post is a fixed-term, three-year grant-funded position. Renewal is possible, subject to performance and funding.

· Master’s degree in Development Studies, Media and Communication, Social Sciences, Business Administration, or related field.

· Minimum 3 years’ experience in programme or project management, preferably within academic, development, or philanthropic sector.

· Demonstrated experience managing multi-stakeholder partnerships, large-scale convenings, or digital/social impact platforms.

· Experience in digital content strategy, event management, or donor-funded programme administration.
