We are seeking an exceptional Programme Manager to join our growing research team within the Centre for Intellectual Disability Equitable Research, part of the University of Plymouth’s Faculty of Health. Working alongside Professor John Terry and Professor Rohit Shankar, you will help deliver pioneering research designed to transform community‑based healthcare.

This is a rare opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of neurological care by leading three complementary, high‑impact research programmes, collectively representing over £4 million in funded research.

About the Role

Our research programmes share a powerful vision: shifting neurological care from hospital settings into accessible, community‑based environments—including GP surgeries, community diagnostic hubs, mobile units, and patients’ homes.

Using mathematical modelling, digital biomarkers, and cutting-edge neurotechnology, our teams are developing new pathways for the diagnosis, prognosis, and management of conditions such as:

  • Epilepsy
  • Dementia
  • Functional Neurological Disorder
  • Stroke

What makes this opportunity unique is the chance to help build and evolve a vibrant ecosystem where academics, clinicians, health-tech innovators, funders, charities, and—critically—people with lived experience of neurological conditions work in partnership to co-design, refine, and deliver research that matters.

What You’ll Bring

Innovation Mindset - A passion for transforming healthcare through technology, and enthusiasm for research with real-world impact.

Programme Management Excellence - Experience creating detailed project plans, managing budgets across multiple funding streams, and identifying synergies to maximise the collective impact of a multi‑programme portfolio.

Strategic Thinking - Confidence in horizon scanning for new funding opportunities, staying at the forefront of emerging neurotechnology and policy trends, and contributing to the development of our future research strategy.

Stakeholder & Partnership Leadership - Outstanding communication skills and the ability to collaborate with a wide ecosystem of clinicians, academics, industry partners, charities, policy makers, and individuals with lived experience.
The N‑CODE network alone includes nearly 100 stakeholders.

Research Coordination - Experience overseeing day‑to‑day delivery of research activities, ensuring robust project management, timely progress against milestones, and high-quality outputs.

Financial Management - Strong financial planning and reporting skills, including budget forecasting, expenditure monitoring, and compliance with funder requirements. You will work closely with internal finance teams and external partners.

About You

You will be someone who can:

  • Demonstrate self‑leadership
  • Develop yourself and others
  • Thrive in times of change and ambiguity
  • Build strong, value‑creating relationships
  • Drive innovation and action
