Project Engineer

About the role

Based at the Oxford Thermofluids Institute (Osney Mead, Oxford) the Project Engineer will be working in a team that will be responsible for the development of thermal-based probes for the detection of cancers. This will require: a good understanding of aspects of mechanical and thermal engineering; appreciation and understanding of the research requirements; specification of sensor systems. This includes extensive experience of thermocouples, thin-film gauges, pressure transducers, electronics, data processing (using Matlab). In addition, interpretation of experimental data in conjuction with 1-D and 3-D thermal modelling. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the whole OTRF team, including academics, technicians and DPhil research students, and to contribute to publications, reporting to sponsors, and to present regularly on their work both within the lab and at larger reviews.

The post is fully funded by an external sponsor, and the initial appointment will until 30 April 2027 with the possibility of an extension.

About you

This position is technical and requires a candidate with good knowledge of mechanical design, heat transfer principles, detailed engineering design, and have experience of equipment procurement, tender processes and management of complex projects. The postholder will be a self-motivated and driven individual who excels at working in a team.
