About the opportunity
As the Project Manager, Strategic Initiatives, Office of PVC (Research), you will lead the implementation, coordination and delivery of major strategic initiatives across the Division, with a particular focus on the University’s Collective Excellence – Research program. Working under broad direction, you will manage complex workstreams, develop project governance frameworks, coordinate stakeholder engagement, and ensure alignment with institutional research priorities.
You will play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence and supporting transformative research initiatives across the University.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- lead the overall project management and delivery of Collective Excellence – Research and other strategic initiatives within the Office of the Pro‑Vice‑Chancellor (Research)
- develop and maintain project organisation structures, project charters, governance frameworks and planning tools
- coordinate program‑wide project plans and ensure milestones, deliverables and budget targets are met
- collaborate with professional service units, multidisciplinary initiatives, faculties and schools to support the design and delivery of strategic initiatives
- implement effective stakeholder engagement methodologies, including consultation forums and working groups
- establish performance metrics, project timelines, risk strategies and issue‑resolution processes
- manage project reporting, documentation and executive briefings for governance committees
- oversee financial planning, budget allocation, expenditure monitoring and financial reporting
- support external funding and grant strategy development to secure resources for new and existing projects.
About you
- postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- extensive experience managing complex, multi‑stream projects in large or matrixed organisations, ideally within the tertiary education sector
- demonstrated understanding of the research funding landscape
- demonstrated ability to design and implement project governance structures, processes and reporting frameworks
- strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial and operational data and provide strategic advice
- exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including negotiation and stakeholder management
- excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to coordinate concurrent work priorities
- ability to work proactively, exercise sound judgement and build effective relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
