Annual Leave: 30 days pro rata plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield

Main duties and responsibilities

In this role, you will deliver key projects that ensure the Dean of Students Office maintains effective, modern and student‑focused practices. Working with senior leaders, you will support the introduction of improved ways of working and drive continuous process enhancement across the SBU.

You will manage multiple projects simultaneously, introducing innovative systems that strengthen efficiency and the student experience. Your work will ensure processes meet internal standards and regulatory requirements, while promoting best practice in data management. Through root cause analysis, you will identify issues affecting service quality and collaborate with process owners to implement corrective and preventative actions.

You will develop and maintain standard operating procedures, stay informed about emerging technologies and advise on their relevance to our business processes. A strong understanding of SBU systems, online services and regulatory obligations will be essential, as you contribute to the development, maintenance and improvement of our digital platforms.

You will investigate and resolve issues within online services, gather stakeholder feedback and coordinate the review and enhancement of key operational processes, including Ask Herts, Appeals and Complaints, Study Needs Agreements and safeguarding reporting systems.

As a subject matter expert, you will provide guidance, produce clear training materials and deliver training following system or process changes You will also represent the SBU at internal and external meetings, conferences and user groups.

Skills and experience required

We’re looking for a skilled professional with strong experience delivering IT data management systems from inception to completion. You’ll work confidently with a wide range of stakeholders, using effective communication and questioning to influence decisions and drive progress. With the ability to manage complex timelines and multiple projects simultaneously, you’ll ensure deadlines are met and business needs remain central.

You’ll bring a solid understanding of data management, system communication, and project management tools, along with proven experience analysing data, identifying trends, and translating insights into service improvements. Strong reporting skills—both written and verbal—are essential, as is the ability to guide direction even without direct authority.

Exceptional organisational skills, risk management capability, and experience developing operational processes will support your success. You’ll also be confident delivering training and presentations to embed new ways of working across the organisation.

Qualifications required

We’re looking for someone who brings a strong foundation of expertise to the role, whether through a relevant degree at level 6 or above, or through substantial, proven experience in the field. You’ll also hold a recognised professional qualification—such as PRINCE2 or an equivalent.
