Public Relations Specialist I
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Public Relations Specialist I for The Graduate School of Education (GSE). This position will support its communications and marketing function and provide innovative and creative solutions to raise its profile and bolster enrollment. To achieve this, the Specialist must proactively monitor marketing trends, forecasting and implementing emerging technologies and platforms—such as AI-driven digital marketing Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)—to enhance recruiting and audience awareness.
Key duties of the position include:
- Multi-Channel Strategy: Support development and lead in the execution of a comprehensive communications strategy that integrates brand storytelling across the website, social media, publications, and digital campaigns.
- Content & Publication Management: Write and develop audience-specific content and manage the end-to-end production of major GSE publications, videos, and other projects.
- Website Maintenance: Manage the GSE website's information architecture and content updates, ensuring compliance with university policies and optimizing for user experience and conversions.
- Digital Marketing Execution & Tactical Support: Provide end-to-end technical and creative support for digital marketing campaigns, including building email templates in Mailchimp/Salesforce, managing audience lists, and deploying tracking tools to ensure all initiatives are executed accurately.
- Public Relations & Brand Stewardship: Support the school's public image by ensuring all visual and written materials meet university standards while enhancing the school's public image and reputation.
- Social Media Management: Oversee daily activity across all social channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.), using management tools to drive engagement and monitor activity.
- Performance Analytics: Compile quarterly analytics reports across all digital channels and providing strategic recommendations for growth.
- Visual Design & Multimedia: Create high-impact visual assets—including infographics, flyers, and templates—to support school-wide events, courses, and programmatic goals.
- Event Management and Support: Execute high-profile events to attract prospective students, faculty, and/or donors; collaborate with internal teams to provide communications, promotional materials, and support for school-level events.
- Operational Execution: Manage project timelines, content calendars, and department administrative functions, including budget monitoring and research on industry trends, and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates skill, knowledge, and understanding, as appropriate, of public relations, promotions, event design and production, marketing, hospitality, proofreading, writing, editing, public communications, organization, coordination, and project management.
- A minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated professional experience in marketing and communications, public relations, website content management, multimedia production, digital content creation, creative writing, or e-mail marketing.
