Public Safety Officer
Quinnipiac University invites applications for the position of Public Safety Officer. Under the direction of the Chief of Public Safety, reporting directly to an assigned Public Safety Sergeant, the Public Safety Officer shall provide a safe and secure environment for faculty, staff, students, and guests of the University while protecting the assets of the University. The department is currently hiring to fill positions on either the evening shift or overnight shift based on the needs at time of job offer. The hourly rate of pay is $19.00 per hour, with evening and night shifts including differential pay. Officers may choose to attend the optional Quinnipiac Armed Officer Academy. Those who meet the necessary requirements and successfully complete the academy program may qualify for conversion to an Armed Public Safety Officer position when offered.

Responsibilities:
- Essential Responsibilities: Gate Entrance Security, Patrol and Building Security, Communications Center, Parking Enforcement, Special Events Security, Administrative Duties.
- Specific Responsibilities:
- Campus Services: Conduct patrol and security checks of all campus buildings, classrooms, and residence hall areas. Secure (arm/disarm) alarms at administrative and academic buildings. Secure and unlock buildings upon request. Ensure hazardous conditions are made safe and reported to Facilities. Serve as emergency notifying agency for Facilities issues after business hours. Provide lock out assistance and escort services. Set up barricades and arrange for towing of vehicles.
- Communications Center: Answer routine and emergency calls, dispatch officers using CAD, monitor alarm systems, security cameras, and blue light system. Greet customers, maintain records, and prioritize responses.
- Residential Life/Student Affairs: Perform lockouts, respond to disturbances and emergencies in residence halls, assist in medical emergencies, and help with uncooperative individuals.
- Parking Enforcement: Enforce parking regulations, patrol areas, and arrange for towing.
- Gate Duty: Stop and check identification, control traffic flow, direct vehicles, maintain radio communication, monitor surveillance, and give directions.
Education Requirements: High School diploma or GED required; Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
Qualifications: Two or more years in Safety and Security preferred. Current CPR & AED certificates or ability to obtain. Valid Connecticut driver's license and excellent driving record. Basic computer skills. Must pass background investigation, physical exam, physical demands test, and drug test. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and rotating shifts.
Physical Requirements: Full range of mobility, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in extreme weather, and specific vision abilities.
Shift Schedule: Evening or overnight shifts based on needs.
