Quality Improvement Consultant

Position Summary:

Provides consultation, education and professional support for Hospital-wide and departmental quality improvement programs, projects and initiatives. Educates and advises on methods, tools and techniques for monitoring and assessing quality of care and compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements. Provides support for implementation and evaluation of hospital and department-based quality improvement programs and serves as project manager for designated programs and projects. Designs and administers customer surveys and analyzes, interprets and presents results.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Plan and conduct educational programs for hospital staff. Identify the learning needs of target audiences and develop and prepare course curriculum and related instructional materials.
  2. Provide consultation for medical staff, management, and hospital departments. Advise on tools, methods, and criteria for monitoring care delivery processes and outcomes and evaluating the effectiveness of changes. Inform departments of current regulatory and accreditation standards and provide assistance in achieving and assessing compliance.
  3. Participate in and provide support for hospital and unit/department-based committees, programs, and special projects. Advise on and assist in data collection, measurement, and analysis and facilitate group processes and decision making.
  4. Serve as project manager for designated hospital quality improvement projects, programs, and initiatives. Monitor and communicate project status, identify and resolve problems/issues, and provide leadership for project teams/work groups in order to meet established goals, specifications, and schedules. Plan and oversee the provision of related training and conduct project evaluation and follow-up. Select, train, and supervise the work of temporary support personnel as needed.
  5. Analyze and interpret data and prepare and present recommendations to improve the quality of care. Design programs and maintain databases to support and produce various reporting and requests for ad hoc analysis.
  6. Respond to requests for data from insurers and other external organizations. Participate in committees within the healthcare industry and in the community to collect and exchange information.
  7. Maintain knowledge of current professional and industry trends and practices through participation in relevant professional/industry organizations and attendance at conferences and other continuing education programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  1. Bachelor's degree in public health, healthcare management, or a closely related field.
  2. Master's degree preferred.

Experience:

  1. Two years of data management experience in a clinical setting is required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience in data management may substitute.
  2. Communication skills in order to persuade and negotiate with others on important matters.
  3. Analytical skills to resolve complex problems requiring the use of scientific, mathematical, or technical principles and in depth, experienced based knowledge.

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting. Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
