Carnegie Mellon University's department of Mechanical Engineering is searching for a Quality Systems Engineer to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. In this role, you will serve the entire project team in all aspects of developing and evaluating a cancer detection device kit, including the nanotechnological and biomolecular components of the platform. You will ensure that design decisions, experimental analyses, data collection, and reporting all follow acceptable processes along with a focus on implementing processes to ensure devices are advancing towards human trials and communicate and align activities with project partners regarding quality management.
Core Responsibilities:
- Establishing quality standards for manufactured systems
- Tracking metrics of systems
- Facilitate handoff scheduling and material transfers between labs/institutions
- Advise leadership on materials quality, variability, and process scalability.
- Support the Project Manager in collecting and maintaining status and other reports.
- Collect and track project updates from research teams and emerging initiatives.
- Support the Project Manager in facilitating project documentation in digital forms (e.g., spreadsheets, databases, project management software, and collaboration tools).
- Support the Project Manager in tracking and supporting research compliance requirements on supported awards, including human subjects (IRB) and animal (IACUC) protocols, clinical trials, export controls, and other compliance-related requirements
- Provide technical support for all aspects of the program, including reviewing technical information from all project teams, attending technical project meetings, reviewing submissions from project teams to ensure technical accuracy and completeness, and facilitating initial reviews and compilation for funding agency reviewers.
- Assist with the technical aspects of the development of award or project-related policies and procedures.
- Provide technical support for coordinating shared resources and facilities as needed by project teams.
- Other duties as assigned

- Adaptability and willingness to embrace change during department and organization's development
Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree preferred in Engineering, Computational Biology, Biophysics, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics or related field
- 2+ Years of Postdoctoral Research experience preferred
- Experience in clinical trials and biomedical devices is a plus
- Laboratory expertise in DNA nanotechnology and/or molecular programming. Strong skills in analytical chemistry are a plus
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
