QUT Is Hiring Two Procurement Partners in Brisbane

What the two QUT procurement partner roles actually cover

QUT Uni Jobs on Academic Jobs

QUT has just put two procurement partner roles on the market in Brisbane, and if you work in university or government procurement, these jobs won't wait around.

The positions are advertised through QUT's NGA recruitment portal, and both carry the same title: Procurement Partner. Two roles, same team. That tells you QUT is building capacity, not just backfilling a chair. You'll need to show end-to-end procurement experience, not purchasing paperwork.

Procurement partners at universities do the work that sits between a faculty's spending needs and the public-sector rules that keep that spending clean. They plan categories, run tenders, negotiate contracts, and manage suppliers. The title sounds administrative. The job is not.

QUT is one of Brisbane's largest public employers, with a supply chain that spans construction for campus buildings, IT systems, lab equipment, professional services, and utilities. Each spend area has its own suppliers, risks, and internal stakeholders. A procurement partner has to move between them without losing control of the contract register or the probity requirements.

What the role actually covers

In QUT's structure, the procurement partner works as a business partner to faculties and administrative divisions. You'll own a set of spend categories, build category plans, and sit in on planning conversations before a purchase request becomes urgent.

The day-to-day stretches across strategic sourcing, tender documentation, evaluation panels, contract negotiation, and supplier performance reviews. You'll be expected to understand Queensland Government procurement rules well enough to run a competitive process that survives an audit. If you've only ever raised purchase orders, this role will test you quickly.

End-to-end procurement at a university follows a familiar sequence. First you help the faculty define the need and the market options. Then you develop a sourcing strategy, run the tender or request for quote, facilitate the evaluation panel, award the contract, and manage supplier performance after the ink dries. Each step has probity requirements, and each step produces documents that may be audited years later.

The ad asks for applications through the NGA portal. One application can cover both roles, but the selection panel will still want evidence you can handle the workload of two positions' worth of demand. Pay attention to the role description, not just the summary.

Why two roles at once matters

Hiring two procurement partners in a single advertisement is unusual enough to notice. It usually means the function is expanding, consolidating after staff departures, or shifting from a transactional buying team to a strategic procurement model.

QUT has spent recent years reviewing its corporate services and digital systems. A two-role intake in procurement fits that pattern. It also creates a larger peer group for new hires, which matters in a specialist field where the work can be isolated.

The Queensland public sector has been tightening procurement compliance and moving more spend through whole-of-government arrangements. Universities must follow the Queensland Procurement Policy while still moving fast enough to support research and teaching. That tension is exactly what procurement partners are paid to manage.

For anyone coming from private industry, the Queensland Procurement Policy is the first place to get oriented. It sets out the principles for planning, sourcing, contract management, and supplier performance expectations across state government and its agencies, including universities. You can read the official policy at For government Queensland's procurement policy page.

What a strong application looks like

QUT uses selection criteria, so your application has to be more than a resume. The panel will score against the role description. If the criterion says demonstrated experience managing complex tender processes, you need a concrete example with a dollar value, a category, and the outcome.

Address every selection criterion separately. Use the STAR format if it helps you stay specific: Situation, Task, Action, Result. University panels read dozens of vague applications; a specific contract you brought in under budget or out of a supplier dispute lands harder than a general claim about being a team player.

You should also know the university context. QUT buys research equipment, cloud services, professional consulting, and campus facilities maintenance. Procurement partners who can talk about research grants and their procurement implications tend to stand out.

  • Your most recent end-to-end tender, including the scope, the budget, the contract length, and the outcome.
  • A supplier performance issue you resolved, with the outcome you delivered.
  • Evidence of probity and conflict-of-interest management in a public-sector or heavily regulated setting.
  • Any category savings or risk reduction you can quantify.

Applying through the portal

You apply through QUT's NGA portal. The direct link is QUT's current job listing. The portal will ask you to create an account if you don't have one, upload a resume, and answer the selection criteria.

Don't wait until the closing date to start. Procurement roles at Brisbane universities often close without warning when the panel receives enough strong applications, and QUT has two positions to fill. If the ad lists a closing date, it's on the page; check it before you begin.

Write your response in the same order as the criteria. Keep each answer tight. One page per criterion is enough; two pages is too many. The panel wants evidence, not enthusiasm.

QUT's broader careers site has information about working at the university, including benefits packages, campus locations, flexible working options, and recruitment processes. You can find it at QUT's careers page.

The Brisbane procurement market

Brisbane's public sector procurement market is competitive. State government agencies, universities, local councils, and hospital and health services all hire from the same small pool of people who understand Queensland's procurement framework. Two roles at QUT won't stay open forever.

For candidates from private industry, this is one of the clearer pathways into a university career without an academic background. The pay band and working conditions sit inside QUT's enterprise agreement, and the work has the typical university rhythm: slower during teaching breaks, intense around budget and financial year deadlines.

You can increase your chances by getting familiar with the way Australian universities report procurement in their annual reports. QUT publishes its annual report and financial statements each year, and the procurement function's work shows up in areas like approved suppliers, capital project purchasing, corporate services contracts, and research-related procurement.

This week, download the role description from the QUT portal and map your last three procurement projects against each selection criterion. If you can't write a specific example for a criterion, that's the gap to fill before you submit.

Frequently Asked Questions

🔎How many procurement partner positions is QUT hiring?

QUT is advertising two procurement partner positions in a single recruitment round on its NGA portal. Both roles carry the same title and sit within the university's procurement function in Brisbane.

📍Where are the QUT procurement partner roles based?

The roles are based at QUT in Brisbane, Queensland. QUT's main campuses are at Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove. Check the role description for any campus-specific or hybrid working arrangements.

📋What does a procurement partner at QUT do?

A QUT procurement partner works with faculties and administrative divisions to plan spend, run tenders, negotiate contracts, and manage supplier performance. The role sits between internal clients and Queensland Government procurement rules, so end-to-end sourcing experience matters more than transactional purchasing.

🎓What qualifications do I need for a university procurement partner role?

QUT typically looks for relevant professional experience and qualifications in procurement, supply chain, commerce, or a related field. Professional certifications such as CIPS or equivalent can help, but demonstrated experience with public-sector tendering and contract management usually carries the most weight.

📝How do I apply for the QUT procurement partner positions?

You apply through QUT's NGA recruitment portal. The direct listing is available at QUT procurement partner listing. You'll need to create an account, upload a resume, and respond to the selection criteria.

🗓️What is the closing date for the QUT procurement partner jobs?

The advertised closing date is shown on the QUT NGA portal listing. Check the current job link before you start writing your selection criteria, because university recruitment rounds can close early if the panel receives enough strong applications.

🏛️Does QUT follow Queensland Government procurement policy?

Yes. QUT, like other Queensland public sector agencies and universities, operates under the Queensland Procurement Policy. Candidates should understand the policy's principles for planning, sourcing, contract management, and supplier performance. You can read it at For government Queensland's procurement policy page.

🧾What selection criteria should I address in my QUT application?

Address every criterion in the role description. Typical criteria for university procurement partner roles include demonstrated experience managing complex tenders, supplier negotiation, probity management, and stakeholder engagement. Use specific examples with outcomes rather than general statements.

💼Is university procurement experience required to apply?

Not always. QUT welcomes candidates from government, health, infrastructure, and private industry who can demonstrate transferable end-to-end procurement experience. Familiarity with public-sector procurement rules and audit requirements helps, but private-sector category management experience can be competitive if you can show probity and compliance skills.

💰What salary does a QUT procurement partner earn?

QUT does not always publish a salary figure in the public ad snippet. Professional staff roles at QUT are paid under the university's enterprise agreement, and the role description usually states the HEW level. Check the QUT listing for salary information or contact the nominated person on the ad.

🗂️Can I apply for both QUT procurement partner positions with one application?

Typically yes. When a university advertises multiple identical roles, one application can be considered for both positions. Make sure your response addresses the selection criteria thoroughly enough to cover the combined workload the panel is planning for.
