REF Impact Officer

About us

Building on the success of its Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 submission, which saw King’s College London ranked 3rd on impact amongst multi-faculty universities and the maintenance of the power ranking of 6th, we are recruiting a REF Impact Officer to join our team to support the development of the Engagement and Impact submission to REF2029.

About the role

The successful candidate will work with the three REF Impact Officers already in post (who support Main Panels B-D) and with the Research Impact Lead team. They will support the units of assessments aligned with REF Main Panel A (Health Sciences and Medicine). They will provide professional services support for all aspects of the planning and delivery of the Engagement and Impact submission. This includes supporting the processes for identifying and preparing Impact Case Studies and collating evidence of impact. They will maintain internal resources for impact (including internal communication channels) and will provide support as required to impact-related groups and events.

This is a full-time (35 hours per week) role and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

The opportunity is available to work in a hybrid way, with an expectation of a minimum of five days per month on campus but attending campus as and when required to perform the role effectively.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Educated to degree level or comparable work experience.
  2. Experience of research support, with understanding of knowledge exchange and/or research impact.
  3. Administrative experience in the Higher Education sector, ideally in an impact, knowledge exchange, communications or research area.
  4. Experience of and familiarity with the Research Excellence Framework.
  5. Excellent IT skills, including database systems, spreadsheets and word processing.
  6. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and appropriately to stakeholders at all levels, both academic and professional services colleagues.
  7. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, balancing competing, shifting priorities under pressure of deadlines and workload.
  8. Experience of supporting meetings, including note-taking or minuting meetings.
  9. Experience of desk-based research, analysis and synthesis of information.
  10. Accuracy and attention to detail.

Desirable criteria

  1. Familiarity with the collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data.
  2. Familiarity with the disciplinary areas represented within the Main Panel area.
