  • Employment Type: Part-time (10.5 hours a week)
  • Duration: 9-months Fixed Term contract
  • Remuneration: $103,866 base, plus 17% superannuation and leave loading
  • Work rights required: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Candidates must hold full rights to work in Australia to be considered for this position.
  • Location: Randwick, Sydney offering hybrid work options

The Discipline of Psychiatry & Mental Health at UNSW leads the delivery of psychiatry education within the medical program, as well as a broad program of research focused on understanding and improving mental health in our community.

Staff come from a wide range of professional backgrounds, including the medical specialty of psychiatry, as well as psychology, nursing and other allied health fields, public health, neuroscience, and the social sciences.

The Research Officer plays a key role in supporting research projects as part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers with Mindgardens Neuroscience Network (Mindgardens). The position will draw upon clinical and research experience, particularly in mental health focused settings (mental health, neuropsychiatric and neurological disorders), and provide administrative and technical research assistance to senior research and clinical staff for Mindgardens affiliated projects conducted in partnership with SESLHD.

The primary project will require the Research Officer to work closely with South Eastern Sydney Local Health District and the Clinical Director, Eastern Suburbs Mental Health Service on educational and translational research initiatives at Prince of Wales Hospital.

Some key skills required:

  • A Bachelor Level university degree in medicine or health related field or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training or experience.
  • Provide practical and efficient support to stakeholders, assisting in development and co-ordination of a variety of projects and services targeting people living with complex mental health disorders.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including researchers, clinicians and people with lived experience.
  • Prepare and contribute to the production of ethics applications, grant applications, abstracts, annual and progress reports and presentations as well as research outputs including reports and manuscripts for publication in high impact journals and correspond with ethics and research governance officers as required.
  • Manage the technical aspects of databases, including co-ordinating and executing data cleaning, data management processes and ensuring research integrity within databases. Maintain accurate research databases and records, statistical reporting, publication registers and research records.
  • Perform data collection, analysis and interpretation. Conduct routine data verification and collection audits.
  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal communication skills to initiate and maintain effective stakeholder relationships whilst exercising discretion and confidentiality including the ability to relate to consumers with mental illness, carers, healthcare services and other associated persons/services.
  • Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, including SPSS and REDCap.
