The Department of Philosophy at Lingnan University is one of the best for analytic philosophy in Asia. It has a thriving research community and will launch a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Philosophy and AI Programme from 2025-26. It also offers a Master in Arts in Artificial Intelligence and the Future in conjunction with the Hong Kong Catastrophic Risk Centre (HKCRC), which investigates ethical and theoretical issues in catastrophic risks, including those from AI.

Requirements: The Department seeks a Research Assistant Professor with expertise in philosophy of AI and/or ethics of risk. Candidates must have a PhD in Philosophy or related disciplines by the appointment start, obtained no more than five years prior, and a record of publications in leading journals. The appointee will conduct research in philosophy of AI and/or ethics of risk, publish in refereed international journals, and apply for grants. Teaching experience at undergraduate and master’s levels is advantageous.

Research Duties: Carry out research and submit papers to top journals; submit grant proposals; organize seminars, reading groups, or workshops; and support HKCRC.

Teaching Duties: Teach three courses per year, such as Ethics and AI, A Philosophical Introduction to AI, Critical Thinking, and introductory ethics courses, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Supervise student projects.

Service Duties: Perform administrative duties as assigned by the Head of Department.
