Research Assistant Professor - Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Cell Biology

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Houston invites application for a non-tenure track Research Assistant Professor. We seek an accomplished scientist with expertise in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Cell Biology to join a vibrant research team investigating the mechanisms of retinal degeneration using knock-in models of inherited retinal diseases, and contributing to the development of novel therapeutic platforms. The successful candidate will conduct independent and collaborative research focused on elucidating molecular and cellular pathways underlying photoreceptor degeneration and testing therapeutic interventions in relevant disease models. This position offers opportunities to work in a multidisciplinary environment, collaborate with experts in vision science and biomedical engineering, and contribute to high-impact publications and grant development.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, execute, and analyze experiments related to retinal disease mechanisms and therapeutic development.
  • Maintain and utilize knock-in mouse models to investigate retinal degeneration.
  • Perform advanced molecular, biochemical, and cell biological assays to assess gene expression, protein function, and cellular responses.
  • Lead and contribute to manuscript preparation, grant proposals, and scientific presentations.
  • Supervise and mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and research staff.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal and external investigators.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or a related field.
  • At least three years of productive postdoctoral research experience indicated by a strong record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with animal models of diseases, particularly knock-in or transgenic mice.
  • Skills in biochemistry, molecular biology, gene therapy, or drug delivery.
  • Collaborate with the research team to develop and secure competitive grant funding.

Applicants should submit the following: 1. Cover letter describing research interests and qualifications. 2. Curriculum vitae including publications and history of research training. 3. Contact information for three professional references.
