Contract Type:Fixed-Term/Contract

Location: Cambridge Campus.

Research Assistant Salary: Grade R1 from £34,132 to £36,130 with potential to progress to £37,174 per annum. (Pro-rata for Part-time).

Research Fellow Salary: Grade R1 from 38,249 to 45,413 with potential to progress to 49,559 per annum. (Pro-rata for Part time).

Hours: Part-time – 17.5 hours per week.

Contract Type: Fixed-term for 24 months.

About the Research Centre Brunel Composites Centre (BCC) is a Cambridge-based research and technology centre that sits between the knowledge base and industry offering high quality research in an innovative environment focused on physicochemical phenomena that take place at the interface of polymer matrix composite materials. A collaboration between Brunel University London and TWI Ltd, BCC has been awarded funding to work with companies across Europe and UK in the aerospace, automotive, construction and engineering sectors.

The Brunel Composites Centre (BCC) leads collaborative research projects that focus on cutting-edge advancements in composite materials. These projects encompass composites simulation, processing, manufacturing, recycling, and life cycle analysis, with an emphasis on the digital transformation of the composites industry. The post aims to lead and support research linked to:

  • Multiphysics simulations for composites.
  • Sensor integration for real-time monitoring and predictive analytics.
  • AI-driven digital tools for material optimization and certification processes.
  • Collaborative work across industrial and academic sectors.

The Role The work involves leading or supporting in:

  • Research Leadership and Collaboration:
    • Act as a technical leader in delivering research outputs within time and budget constraints.
    • Represent BCC at academic and non-academic conferences, delivering impactful oral presentations.
    • Collaborate with external stakeholders and partners on cross-disciplinary projects.

About You We are looking for a candidate with:

  • MSc in Mechanical, Electrical or material science engineering.
  • Demonstratable and recent work experience in composite materials research and development is very important.
