Overview

This person will be working on the studies on the statistical analysis and modeling of bacterial and viral vaccine preventable diseases such as pneumococcal infections. Our group conducts field and lab based and epidemiological studies to assess vaccine effectiveness for different vaccines, disease burden at population level and among high-risk groups. We utilize different statistical platforms such as R, SAS to analyze clinical and epidemiological data collected via medical records, population level surveillance, and different microbiological te innate immune pattern recognition receptor (PRR) function. We use in-depth single cell profiling from whole blood analysis of age-related chronic inflammation to evaluate Toll-like Receptor (TLR), RIG-I, and NLRP3 function at baseline and following ex vivo stimulation with specific PRR ligands. We also assess the expansion of T-cell and B-cell subsets following vaccination, including in vitro stimulation with vaccine strains to identify antigen-specific responses.

Required Skills and Abilities

  1. Demonstrated track record of proficiency in flow cytometry and/or biostatistic analyzes, . Familiarity with statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R)
  2. Ability to analyze, develop, and interpret scientific results. Maintains clear documentation of results. Prepares scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports.
  3. Performs independent research and laboratory techniques and participates in experimental research planning. Works independently to develop, manage, and organize multi-site studies.
  4. Ability to develop an independent analysis plan and interpretation of the bio-statistical results.
  5. Ensures data results are compiled, analyzed, and presented properly. Supervise and train other team members and students on study-related tasks, including flow cytometry and analysis.

Principal Responsibilities

  1. Recommends the design and implementation of procedures and protocols under the direction of a higher-level authority.
  2. Investigates, analyzes, and reaches preliminary scientific conclusions related to research planning
  3. Ensures data results are compiled, analyzed, and presented properly.
  4. Analyzes, develops and interprets scientific results. Maintains clear documentation of results. Prepares scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports.
  5. Performs independent research and laboratory techniques and participates in experimental research planning.
  6. Interacts with internal contacts including the PI, research assistants, graduate students, Radiation Safety and Biological Safety officers, and Animal Care personnel to discuss and evaluate research results and to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the laboratory.
  7. Interacts with external contacts such as researchers at other institutions, staff at biotechnology and reagents companies to consult on research methods and to keep abreast of product information and developments.
  8. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and one year experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
