Research Associate 1, MS
Overview
This position supports research in the Fredericks Lab within the Department of Neurology by carrying out research assignments across multiple neuroimaging studies. The role includes managing a database of research participants and playing a lead role in screening and recruiting potential participants for neu-roimaging research protocols.
The incumbent will obtain informed consent from participants and administer validated questionnaires and cognitive tasks as part of research protocols, including administration of in-scanner tasks during MRI sessions. Responsibilities include ensuring data quality, managing the REDCap database of collected data, and assisting with data preprocessing and quality assurance activities.
Additional duties include scheduling study procedures, collecting data in accordance with research proto-cols, escorting participants to study locations when needed, delivering specimens to the local laboratory, and completing accurate data entry. The position also requires occasional after-hours coverage to support late study procedures.
The role contributes to preparation of study protocols and associated materials, supports data analysis efforts, and assists with activities related to publications and grant applications.
Principal Responsibilities
- Conducts independent literature research supporting publication efforts. Writes and edits materials for publication and presentation. Assists with grant preparation. Develops protocol and consent documents. Completes regulatory submissions (IRB/MRRC/Radiation Safety).
- Identifies and recruits study participants for multiple research studies and ensures that subject recruitment and follow-up are completed per protocol procedures.
- Schedules and coordinates research activities. Orders and maintains an inventory of supplies. Prepares source documents for new studies. Records and compiles information related to research data. Completes electronic data entry and generates reports.
- Reports on the status of research activities to the research team and academic or industry collaborators. Assist with preparation of annual reports required by regulatory agencies. May prepare financial information and monitor budgets. Perform additional functions incidental to research activities.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Able to multi-task. Proven ability to work with minimal supervision
- Excellent organizational, writing, and communication skills.
- Expertise in use of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- At least one year of experience in clinical research.
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with Good Clinical Practice (GCP). Familiarity with local and federal regulatory agencies.
Principal Responsibilities
- Recommends the design and implementation of procedures and protocols under the direction of a higher-level authority.
- Investigates, analyzes, and reaches preliminary scientific conclusions related to research planning
- Ensures data results are compiled, analyzed, and presented properly.
- Analyzes, develops and interprets scientific results. Maintains clear documentation of results. Prepares scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports.
- Performs independent research and laboratory techniques and participates in experimental research planning.
- Interacts with internal contacts including the PI, research assistants, graduate students, Radiation Safety and Biological Safety officers, and Animal Care personnel to discuss and evaluate research results and to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the laboratory.
- Interacts with external contacts such as researchers at other institutions, staff at biotechnology and reagents companies to consult on research methods and to keep abreast of product information and developments.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and one year experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Salary Range
$61,500.00 - $91,875.00
