Departmental Overview

The Department of Neuroscience will advance the understanding of brain, mind, and behavior through research, education, and training. Our faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and postdoctoral researchers study how the brain functions in health and disease, how it generates behavior and thought, and how it computes. We investigate the nervous system at levels ranging from molecules and cells to neural circuits and systems, to behavior and cognition, to neural computation. We also develop neurotechnology and explore the impacts of neuroscience on society.

Responsibilities

• Screen participants for entry into research studies
• Administer neuropsychological tests and interviews: Provide questionnaires to participants, administer paper and pencil and computerized cognitivec assessments, encourage and support participants during testing, provide feedback as required, score tests and determine results.
• Enter data into database
• Schedule participants for research visits.
• Assist during PET and MRI scanning. Obtain informed consent and operate scanners
• Maintain records of participation and use judgment about recruitment so as not to overburden participants
• Ordering supplies and managing reimbursements
• Produce training materials for new staff members who will be working with participants
• Conduct training for new staff members working with the cohort

Required Qualifications

• Familiarity with measures of cognitive functioning.
• Familiarity with standard office software.
• Familiarity with multiple operating systems (Linux, Unix, OSX, Windows).
• Organized, detail-oriented, good record-keeping.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience with human subjects research.
• BA or BS degree and/or equivalent combination of experience/training

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with statistics, including the use of standard statistical hypothesis testing software such as SPSS, SAS, Statistica, or R.
• Some programming experience in Matlab, Python, or similar software.
• Some experience working with databases.
• Experience in working with PET or MR images.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted annual salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $65,155.55 - $66,500.17 (steps 1-2).

Other Information

This is not a visa opportunity. This position does not include sponsorship of a new consular H-1B visa petition that would require payment of the $100,000 supplemental fee.

This position is governed by the terms and conditions in the agreement for the Research Support Professionals Unit (RX) between the University of California and the University Professional and Technical Employees (UPTE).
