The Department of Pediatrics, Children's Environmental Health Initiative (CEHI) at the University of Illinois Chicago is seeking to fill a Research Associate I (GIS ANALYST) position.
Position Summary
The Children's Environmental Health Initiative (CEHI) is a research, education, and outreach program committed to fostering environments where all people can prosper. This position will contribute to CEHI's research by conducting spatial analyses, creating maps and spatial databases. This position will contribute to CEHI's capacity building efforts by creating training materials, holding Q&A sessions with trainees, and providing other support as necessary.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and present exploratory data analysis of relevant datasets
- Create, edit and maintain geospatial metadata
- Create maps, charts, tables, graphs and graphics using GIS and related software
- Develop and maintain geospatial databases
- Prepare, provide and update data sets to include spatial components
- Modify and test existing scripts
- Support CEHI's GIS capacity building efforts
- Create and manage references lists for publications and grants
- Conduct research to locate and obtain relevant data
- Complete all required unit trainings and maintain frequent and effective communication with coworkers, student supervisors, and professional staff.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Knowledge of fundamental research concepts, practices and procedures.
- Entry level knowledge of research methods.
- Experience using GIS software (Esri Products, QGIS).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team-based environment.
- Ability to solve problems within limits of departmental policy and procedures.
- Strong critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently to accomplish all tasks to a high standard.
