Position Summary:

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Associate I within Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at the Rutgers Cancer Institute.

Under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Research Associate I will perform research, experiments, and laboratory techniques of a specialized nature, draft written reports for inclusion in manuscripts, and contribute to grant proposals. The Research Associate I will also be responsible for guiding and training junior lab staff, graduate students, and/or technicians.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Generates, compiles and presents statistical data with appropriate conclusions, recommendations, etc. pertinent to research activity. Reviews and analyzes scientific data, scientific reports, publications and other documents pertaining to current research developments. Gives oral presentations of the research at lab meetings and journal clubs.
  • Assists the Principal Investigator with grant applications, annual progress reports and writing and submitting manuscripts.
  • Performs standard experiments in the lab: Microscopy (light, fluorescent, or confocal); electrophoresis (nucleic acid and protein); PCR; Western blotting; flow cytometry (multiparameter and spectral) of mouse and human specimens; DNA/RNA extraction; preparation of samples (murine and human) for ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq (bulk, single-cell, and spatial), RNAseq (bulk, single-cell, and spatial), and other multi-omic approaches in collaboration with the appropriate institutional core facilities. In addition, cultures mammalian cell lines (e.g. murine, human, etc.) and conducts cell-based in vitro assays.
  • Responsible for animal husbandry, administration of medications to mice via oral, intraperitoneal, intravenous, or other necessary routes of administration, collection of specimens (blood, cerebrospinal fluid, organs), histology, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and analysis of biomarkers.
  • Assists the Principal Investigator with training graduate students, Postdoctoral Associates and junior lab staff.
  • Contributes to writing research protocols and protocol amendments as required for IRB and IACUC approval.
  • Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, investigates, reviews, modifies, develops, and tests new analytical procedures and methodologies.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Molecular Genetics, Developmental Biology, or another relevant science. Two (2) years of related research experience required.
