Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 23rd September 2025

About the role
This research is supported by a project grant from Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council with co-funding from Arla Foods Ingredients and is being conducted in partnership with a co-investigator at Birmingham (Prof Gareth Wallis) and collaborator at Bath (Dr Sean Williams).
The Research Associate will take responsibility for participant recruitment and the day-to-day running of the experiments, including the co-ordination of research students as required.
This project is an excellent training opportunity and involves many state-of-the-art techniques – including blood biochemistry, indirect calorimetry, and the application of stable isotopes to study human metabolism. There will also be opportunities to see how research can lead to impact within an industry setting.
About you
The ideal candidate will have experience of conducting human randomised controlled trials using methods of assessing glucose metabolism such as blood sampling and processing and stable isotope tracers of glucose.
You will hold a PhD in a relevant field; A lower grade offer may be made (Grade 6) with comparable reduction in responsibilities and amendment in job title to Research Assistant, if a suitable applicant cannot be found to fill the Grade 7 position. Applicants will need to be within six months of their course completion date and will be promoted to Research Associate once their PhD has been awarded.
