Salary:£35,608 to £41,064 Specialist and Supporting Academic Research grade 6. Subject to annual pay award.

Here’s more about the role and what we’re looking for:

  • To conduct research in the fields of chemistry, redox reactions, and electrochemistry, employing inorganic etchants to investigate the surface modification of titanium and titanium alloys.
  • To apply fundamental principles of chemistry and physics to characterise the etching behaviour of oxidising agents on titanium surfaces.
  • To utilise modelling tools that determine oxidation states and electron transfers.
  • To measure and analyse aqueous solutions to identify and quantify the presence of cations, ions, and complexes.
  • To enhance our existing knowledge of the practical application of etchants on titanium surfaces.
  • To generate high-quality scientific reports and papers suitable for publication in international journals.

Key Requirements:

The candidate needs to have extensive experience in:

  • Redox reactions, and how to determine oxidate states, as well as electron transfer.
  • Demonstrated experience using inorganic chemicals and metals for chemical etching or electrochemistry reactions.
  • Experience working with modelling tools to visualise and quantify redox reactions.
  • Experience of acquiring and analysing data derived from analytical techniques.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Have a PhD degree (or close to completion) in a related subject or equivalent experience
