About the role

This is an excellent opportunity for a post-doc researcher to build a research career in translational research that leverages on collaborations between industry, clinicians, scientists and other NIHR infrastructures. The post holder will be part of the core methodology team within NIHR HealthTech Research Centre in In Vitro Diagnostics, contributing to a highly dynamic  multidisciplinary research programme focusing on evidence generation to further methodology research and to enable the design  development of in-vitro diagnostics and medical devices for patients and the NHS. NIHR HRC IVD forms part of 14 NIHR HealthTech Research centres across England.

Essential requirement includes a PhD in health economics, health technology assessment, health innovation, or a closely related discipline. Experiences working with industry or device manufacturers are highly desirable. Both qualitative and quantitative research experiences are essential. This is a full-time post for 12 months in the first instance, based at Hammersmith Hospital & White City Campuses, London.

The College is supportive of flexible working. The Department is happy to discuss the possibility of implementing such arrangements for this post, with suitably qualified people subject to operational arrangements.

What you would be doing

As a Health Economist at the NIHR HealthTech Research Centre in IVD, you will lead and contribute to high-quality economic evaluations embedded within clinical and health services research. Your work will inform healthcare decision-making and support the development, adoption, and funding of effective  efficient healthcare interventions.

You will design and deliver cost-effectiveness and budget impact analyses, analyse healthcare cost and outcomes data, and develop decision-analytic models. Working closely with clinicians, researchers,  policy stakeholders, you will integrate economic evidence into research studies, grant applications,  publications.

What we are looking for

  • Post doctorate-level training in health economics or a related discipline, with experience applying economic evaluation methods within health, public health, or social care research.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience analysing healthcare cost, outcomes,  patient-reported data using appropriate statistical and modelling techniques.
  • Flexible, proactive, and well organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities  deliver high-quality outputs within a fast-paced, funded research environment.
  • Collaborative and multidisciplinary, with experience contributing health economic expertise across the research lifecycle.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, with the ability to translate complex economic evidence for academic, clinical, policy,  public audiences.
  • Experience contributing to NIHR or other competitively funded research, including involvement in study design, grant applications,  reporting.
  • Commitment to research quality, transparency,  governance, including adherence to NIHR, NICE, and other relevant methodological guidelines.
