"Research Associate"

The Department of Sustainable Earth Systems Sciences (SESS) at The University of Texas at Dallas invites application for a Postdoctoral Scholar in the field of passive source seismology, which will be funded and mentored by Prof. Joseph Byrnes. The primary project will be an NSF-funded collaboration with Ryan Porter and Jim Gaherty at Northern Arizona University to investigate the composition of the lower continental crust with the joint inversion of surface wave and receiver function data, see https://tinyurl.com/nsfawardlink. This team will target outstanding questions about the bulk composition of the lower crust, the sharpness of the Moho, and the role of crustal density in supporting high topography.

Other research directions could include but are not limited to the training of machine learning algorithms, seismic hazard assessment in urban areas, and novel tools for measuring changes in time with ambient seismic noise.
