Research Coordinator

The Division of Epidemiology and Community Health in the School of Public Health, University of Minnesota, is seeking a 100% time coordinator to manage a five-year NIH-funded research grant to compare experiences in cancer care between LGBTQ individuals and the impact poor cancer care and discrimination has on research participation.

The objective of this research is: 1) to conduct in-depth qualitative interviews with LGBTQ patients; 2) to recruit LGBTQ cancer patients in clinics and from online sources; 3) to create an online, quantitative survey tool to quantify willingness to participate in cancer research across LGBTQ cancer patients and the impact of cancer care and perceived stigma on willingness to engage in research.

This position will report to Dr. Simon Rosser, Principal Investigator, and Ms. Gunna Kilian, Program Director in the Division of Epidemiology and Community Health.

Job Responsibilities: The coordinator will have frequent meetings with Dr. Rosser and Ms. Kilian to prioritize and discuss research tasks. Broadly, the coordinator will be responsible for 1) day-to-day implementation, management and coordination of all aspects of the study (20%); 2) prepare and maintain the study project schedule, ensuring that all aspects of the project, and reports are completed on time (10%); 3) recruit and conduct in-depth interviews with members of the LGBTQ community to investigate the experience of cancer treatment (10%); 4) analyze qualitative data using Nvivo 9.1 in order to increase understanding of emerging themes (5%); 5) assist with design, development, revision, quality control of an online needs assessment (15%); 6) recruit study participants at clinics and online sites (25%); 7) assist with quantitative analysis of the data using STATA 12 software package (5%); 8) assist with the preparation of reports, scientific publications, and presentations at national and international conferences, and liaisons with the IRB and the National Institute of Health (5%); and 9) other duties as assigned (5%).

Required Qualifications: (1) Bachelor Degree in a social science, public health, or related field plus at least five years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree plus at least three years of relevant experience, or a combination of related education and work experience to equal nine years; (2) experience with and sensitivity to the target population (LGBTQ); (3) experience and/or comfort conducting qualitative interviews; (4) experience with Institutional Review Board submissions; (5) experience in both qualitative and quantitative data collection methodology; (6) experience conducting basic statistical analysis; (7) excellent interpersonal and communication skills, good organizational skills and ability to work independently as well as with a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to someone who has worked on studies involving cancer and/or LGBTQ populations. Given the large recruitment component of this study; the ideal candidate would be someone who has conducted participant recruitment and has familiarity when it comes to recruiting from online sites.
