Job Summary

Be part of a team dedicated to supporting Huntsman Cancer Institute, an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, to maximize its potential, excellence, and trajectory toward future goals.

This position will report to the Associate Director of Research Development, Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI). This position is hybrid. The expectation is in office at least 1 day a week and remote up to 4 days. This may change based on departmental needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide writing and editorial review of scientific grants and other scientific narratives, including nominations for honorary awards.
  • Aid in the development of institutional and multi-project grant proposals by participating as a member of researcher teams.
  • Track and manage progress of various projects.
  • Maintain high standards for written work, with the goal to produce top-quality products that meet or exceed the guidelines and objectives of funding agencies.
  • Provide detailed copy editing of written narratives and presentation slides, with strong attention to grammar, formatting, and style.
  • Develop and maintain an awareness of HCI's strategic goals and accomplishments.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency typically required Nearly Continuously: Office environment. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree + two years of related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

  • Advanced degree in a life science (PhD, MD, MS), or related/equivalent area; two years of progressively more responsible scientific and/or writing/editorial experience.
  • Understanding of scientific funding mechanisms and grant application processes a plus.
  • Expertise with office and writing software (Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, EndNote).
  • Basic graphics skills (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign) and an interest in design a plus.
