Research Development Manager

Job Description:

About This Opportunity

The Ian Frazer Centre for Children’s Immunotherapy Research is seeking an experienced Research Development Manager to play a highly strategic, high-impact role in shaping the Centre’s research funding and partnership agenda.

In this senior role, you will work closely with leading researchers and clinician-scientists to strengthen the Centre’s research funding pipeline, support the development of high-quality, competitive grant and fellowship applications, and build and manage productive partnerships with key industry, philanthropic and health-sector stakeholders. You will play a pivotal role in enabling research that delivers real-world health outcomes for children and adolescents with cancer and immune-related diseases.

This is an opportunity to influence funding strategy, engage with diverse partners, and support the implementation of major research initiatives, providing a strong platform for career progression into senior research development, research strategy or partnership leadership roles within the University or the broader research sector.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead research development activities to maximise funding success across competitive grants, fellowships and industry funding.
  • Provide strategic, high-level advice to researchers on funding strategy, eligibility, compliance, budgets and processes.
  • Oversee the development, review and quality assurance of high-quality, competitive grant applications, including shaping persuasive narratives.
  • Lead research partnership activities, including coordination of research contracts and agreements from negotiation to execution.
  • Act as a senior engagement point for key industry, health and philanthropic partners.
  • Provide strategic oversight of research budgets, contractual obligations and Centre-wide research performance and improvement initiatives.

About You

You will bring strong research development expertise, excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the confidence to operate autonomously in a complex research environment. You will have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications (PhD) in health or biomedical sciences and significant experience in research development and/or research contract management; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.
  • Extensive experience supporting competitive grant applications (e.g. ARC, NHMRC, MRFF, philanthropic or industry funding) and/or managing complex research contracts and agreements.
  • High-level scientific writing and editing skills for grant applications, reports and presentations.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with industry, health and research partners, including contract negotiation and working effectively with legal teams.
  • Strong knowledge of research administration, financial management and compliance requirements, or the ability to rapidly acquire this knowledge.
  • Proven leadership capability, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and influence at all levels.

Desirable:

  • Organisational knowledge of Queensland Health operational processes.

We welcome applications from all individuals and are committed to an inclusive and accessible recruitment process. To be considered, please ensure you upload:
