Research Faculty - Division of Surgical Oncology - (Open Rank/Track Faculty)
Position Overview
The Ohio State University (OSU) Department of Surgery is recruiting a nationally recognized basic scientist to join the Pancreatic Cancer Program. This individual should have an established record of research as evidenced by publications and an active research program. This position is being recruited at the Associate Professor or Professor level.
OSU Pancreatic Cancer Program consists of a cohesive multi-disciplinary team with active investigation in the areas of immunology, cachexia, obesity, cell signaling, and experimental therapeutics. The program has developed a longitudinal, comprehensive, and clinically annotated biorepository which includes blood and tissue samples, as well as a high-risk screening clinic. A unique aspect of the program is the collaborative and synergistic interactions between our scientists and the clinical team which includes medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and surgeons. The clinical program is high volume and has a strong portfolio of clinical trials in the neoadjuvant, locally advanced, and metastatic disease setting, including phase I clinical trials and drug development.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conceptualizes, plans, designs, implements and conducts research studies; develops and writes grant proposals to seek and obtain extramural funding to support research program; obtains and maintains NIH R01 or equivalent funding;
- Writes and publishes research in high quality peer reviewed, scientific journals; attends and makes presentations of research at national and international scientific conferences; develops national and international scholarly reputation;
- Instructs and mentors junior scientists, doctoral and postdoctoral students, medical students, residents and fellow trainees; participates in department, college and university committees and initiatives.
Requirements
- PhD or MD/PhD in an applicable field
- Established record of research in pancreatic cancer
- Proven ability to write scientific reports and publish in scientific, peer-reviewed journals preferred
- Qualify for academic appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with previous training and experience
Preferred Qualification
Active extramural grant funding (equivalent to NIH R01) desired

Our investigators collectively occupy over 25,000 square feet of laboratory space within and around the medical center campus. The Division of Surgical Oncology provides excellence in clinical cancer care; educates medical students, residents and fellows; and conducts internationally recognized clinical and basic research. Our surgical specialists and subspecialists offer the most current research-based surgical treatment techniques from complex open surgery to minimally invasive robotic procedures to provide individualized care in conjunction with multidisciplinary teams of cancer experts as part of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC James).
