The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.
We seek a researcher with quantitative data analysis skills to join a team that has led world-leading research on corruption and good governance. The Accountability in Action (AiA) project focused on understanding institutional and structural root causes of health sector corruption in Nigeria and Malawi, seeking to identify feasible anti-corruption strategies.
The post holder will lead the analysis of AiA household surveys and global datasets (e.g. V-Dem), exploring illicit practices, their drivers and impact. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead and write up high-quality papers on corruption, supporting Malawian and Nigerian researchers with their own analysis, and papers.
The post holder should have a postgraduate degree with evidence of training in applied quantitative analysis. They should have demonstrable track record in implementing surveys, leading and working with others to analyse data (e.g. national representative surveys, global socio-political datasets) and publish in peer-reviewed journals. They will be able to deliver outputs independently and in a timely manner, working with researchers from different backgrounds. For more information please contact: Prof. Dina Balabanova, dina.balabanova@lshtm.ac.uk.
The post is part-time 17.5 hours per week, 0.5 FTE and fixed term until 31 December 2025. The post is funded by the Accountability in Action of Medical Research Council and is available from 01 August 2025.
The salary will be on the LSHTM salary scale, Grade 6 in the range £45,097 - £51,156 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.
