About This Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated and highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow or Research Fellow to join the Language Neuroscience Laboratory within our world-leading School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.

The successful applicant will play a key role on an NIH-funded research project on the functional reorganisation of language processing in individuals with post-stroke aphasia, under the mentorship of Stephen M. Wilson, PhD.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead analyses of an exceptional longitudinal dataset comprising functional MRI, structural MRI, and behavioural data from hundreds of individuals recovering from aphasia after stroke. You will play a pivotal role in carrying out planned analyses of this dataset as well as designing and implementing your own innovative analyses, helping to shape future data collection, and developing your independence as a researcher.

This research-focused opportunity is being offered at Academic Level A or B commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications, skills and experience.

About You

At Academic Level A, you will demonstrate:

  • A PhD (by commencement date) in a relevant field such as Cognitive Neuroscience, Biomedical Imaging, Psychology, or Communication Sciences and Disorders; or a clinical degree plus extensive relevant research experience.
  • Substantial experience in the analysis of functional and/or structural MRI data.
  • Ability to develop and implement innovative imaging analyses to address novel questions.
  • Excellent programming skills.
  • A strong record of research productivity and a strong publication record.
  • Experience with language and/or aphasia research and working with neurological populations is desirable, but not essential.

In addition, for consideration at Academic Level B, you will demonstrate:

  • Evidence of leadership in producing research outputs.
  • Demonstrated leadership of funding applications or other external mechanisms of research support.
  • A growing record of achievement in supervision outcomes.

We encourage all applications, both domestic and international. Subject to individual eligibility, we may support the successful applicant with obtaining employer-sponsored work rights.
