Research Fellow

The School of Life Course & Population Sciences is one of six Schools that make up the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine at King’s College London. The School unites over 400 experts in women and children’s health, nutritional sciences, population health and the molecular genetics of human disease.

We wish to appoint a Research Fellow who will be a member of CHILDs group at the School of Life Course and Population Sciences. The successful candidate will be the lead analyst for an ARC South London study on multi-morbidity in children using CPRD data.

The ARC South London Children’s and Young person theme is important as many children in south London experience high levels of poor health, and unequal health and care outcomes. We particularly need to improve care for children with disabilities, complex needs and who face a range of challenges in their lives. This role involves using CPRD data to describe how common multi morbidity is in children and young people, how this has changed over time and how these diagnoses tend to cluster together. This information will then be used to help inform targeting future prevention activities and any change to delivery of health services.

Experience with large datasets and excellent communications skills will be essential for this role. This role will involve developing and applying analysis plans using a variety of advanced methods with the support of project supervisors.

The postholder will have completed a PhD in a relevant discipline and have expertise in quantitative research methods. They will be someone who thrives in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, but is able to work independently, solve problems and deliver research to tight deadlines. The role will involve collaboration with experienced researchers across medical statistics, epidemiology, informatics, social science and integration into the broader CHILDs team.

This is an outstanding opportunity to develop a research career through high quality publications, contributing to research proposals and taking advantage of developmental opportunities within the department and KCL. This is a full time post (35 hours per week) for 6 months from 1/10/2025-31/3/2026.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  • PhD qualified in relevant subject area
  • Experience working with large datasets e.g. CPRD or similar
  • Experience with relevant statistical software (STATA or R)
  • Research experience in Public Health/Epidemiology/Informatics/ Statistics

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of advanced statistical and/or machine learning methods, such as longitudinal analysis methods, latent variables models, clustering algorithms, missing data and clinical trial analysis
  • Strong publication record
  • Experience in women and children’s health research
