Offer Description
Summary: There is an open call for one (1) Research Scholarship (“Bolsa de Investigação”) at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of project INSTANT.
Scientific Area: Wireless Communications
Group: Mobile Systems - Av
Work Objectives: Energy-efficient wireless power transfer system using RIS-enabled beamforming and optimized power management algorithms to ensure sustainable monitoring. Specific tasks include: i) Develop a RIS-enabled SWIPT (Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer) architecture for landslide-prone regions. ii) RIS-enabled beamforming and optimized power management algorithms to ensure sustainable monitoring. iii) Implementation, simulation, and performance evaluation of system for landslide monitoring and prediction.
Place of work: The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações at University of Aveiro, under the supervision of Dr. Jonathan Rodriguez Gonzalez.
Duration: 12 months, with the possibility of renewal. This type of scholarship has a maximum duration of 4 years. Start date: September 2026 or soon thereafter.

Research Grants (BI):
- Are intended for carrying out R&D activities by students enrolled in a doctoral program, aiming to consolidate their scientific training through the development of research work leading to the respective academic degree, whether or not integrated into R&D projects.
- Are intended for carrying out R&D activities by master's degree holders who are enrolled in non-degree courses that are part of the educational programme of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units.

Benefits
Monthly salary: 1359.64€ according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). The payment will be made by bank transfer.
Eligibility criteria
Candidates must have a master’s degree in electronic and electrical engineering, Industrial Engineering, or any other relevant subject. Specific skillsets include competence on programming languages such as Python/Matlab/C++, and knowledge-based skills on Electrical and Mechanical Systems. Priority would be given to candidates that possess relevant industry experience.
Selection process
Selection criteria: Curricular evaluation (100%) - the evaluation of the application will focus on the i) overall merit of the curriculum vitae, ii) knowledge in the field of this project, iii) the candidate’s adequacy, suitability and motivation for the project and iv) fluency in oral and written English.
The Jury has the right to not admit any of the candidates that applied for this position whenever they consider that no candidate meets the minimum requirements for the position.
