The Institute of Education of the University of Lisbon (IE-ULisboa) is opening a call for applications for a Research Grant, within the scope of the R&D Unit UIDEF – Research and Development Unit in Education and Training (UID/04107/2025), using own funds provided under the Programmatic Contract for the funding of the Multiannual Plan of R&D Units 2025–2029 (UID/04107/2025), established between the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. (FCT) and IE-ULisboa, under the following conditions:

- Admission requirements:
- Hold a Master’s degree in Education or in Education and Training;
- Be enrolled in a PhD programme in Education;
- Be fluent in spoken and written Portuguese.
- Preferred requirements:
- Experience participating in research and development projects in the field of education;
- Experience in organizing and supporting scientific events, both in-person and online;
- Experience in text editing and reviewing;
- Experience in Microsoft Excel, including literature mapping, data organization, and formatting;
- Experience in data collection and analysis (interviews and questionnaires);
- Good communication skills.
- Description and purpose of the Grant: The main objective of the research grant is to carry out research to support the project “Redescola: Building and mobilizing knowledge for organizational and professional development in education.” It aims to develop skills for conducting research on practices of building and/or mobilizing knowledge in educational organizational settings, including data collection, analysis, and dissemination in different contexts.
- Work plan: The fellowship will develop the following activities:
- Development of survey instruments, both in-person and online;
- Support the management of the Redescola website and social media;
- Support in data processing;
- Support in organizing reports, meetings, and events;
- Preparation of dissemination materials;
- Collaboration in the development and validation of technical resources to support organizational and professional development initiatives in educational organizations, or organizations with an educational mission;
- Collaboration in conducting studies;
- Collaboration in activities for sharing and dissemination of knowledge, including organizing events (workshops, talk series, national seminars and international seminars) and preparing presentations for seminars and conferences;
- Development of a PhD project.
- Applicable Legislation and Regulations: Research Fellowship Statute, approved by Law No. 40/2004, of August 18th, in its current wording; Regulation for Research Grants of the Universidade de Lisboa, published in annex to Order no. 6238/2020, DR 2nd Series, no. 113, of 12th June 2020; amended and republished by Order no. 8061/2022, DR, 2nd Series, no. 126, of 1 July 2022; FCT, I.P. Research Grant Regulations, in force.
- Workplace: The work plan will be carried out at the Instituto de Educação da Universidade de Lisboa (IE-ULisboa), under the scientific supervision of Dr. Marta Isabel Silva Mateus de Almeida, Assistant Professor at IE-ULisboa.
- Duration and regime of the fellowship: The fellowship will have a duration of 12 (twelve) months, with a predicted start in November/December 2026. It may be renewed for additional periods, under the terms of Article 5, paragraph 4 of the Universidade de Lisboa Research Fellowships Regulations, up to a maximum of 3 (three) years. The tasks as a fellowship holder are carried out under an exclusive dedication regime.
- Value of the Monthly Maintenance Allowance: The fellowship holder receives a Monthly Maintenance Subsidy (MMS) in the amount of €1,359.64 (one thousand three hundred and fifty-nine euros and sixty-four cents), according to the table of stipends of the fellowships awarded by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (www.fct.pt/financiamento/ programas-de-financiamento/bolsas/). The grant includes Training Costs (tuition subsidy). The fellowship holder will benefit from personal accident insurance and, if not covered by any social protection system, may access social security through the enrolment in the voluntary social insurance scheme, under the terms set out in Article 22, paragraph 1 of the Regulation for Research Grants of the Universidade de Lisboa.
- Fellowship component payments: Payments due to fellowship holder are made by bank transfer to the account identified by the fellowship holder or by check.
- Selection and Valuation criteria: The selection methods to be used will be based on the following parameters:
- A – Final classification obtained in the Master’s degree (25%);
- B – Experience in tasks described in the work plan (35%);
- C – Evaluation of the candidate's profile, according to the project's objectives, considering motivation, relevant knowledge in the field, and availability (40%).
- Motivation for scientific research in general (20%);
- Motivation for the specific area of study (20%);
- Knowledge in the area of study (35%);
- Analytical and critical thinking skills (25%).
- Composition of the Selection Jury: The Jury was appointed by Order No. 24/2026 of the Director of the Instituto de Educação da Universidade de Lisboa (IE-ULisboa), dated 24 of July 2026, and has the following constitution:
- Dr. Marta Isabel Silva Mateus de Almeida, Assistant Professor at IE-ULisboa, President of the Jury;
- Dr. Ana Sofia Reis de Castro e Pinho, Assistant Professor at IE-ULisboa, Member;
- Dr. Nuno Miguel Taborda Cid Dorotea, Assistant Professor at IE-ULisboa, Member;
- Dr. Ana Isabel Ricardo Gonçalves Pedro, Assistant Professor at IE-ULisboa, Substitute Member.
- Publication/notification of results: The final evaluation results will be published in a ranked list of final grades on the website www.ie.ulisboa.pt, and all the candidates will be notified by email.
- Application deadline: The application is open from 17 August to 18 September 2026.
- Submission of application: Applications must be formalized, necessarily and under penalty of exclusion, through the following documents, written in Portuguese:

- Motivation letter;
- Proof of enrollment in a PhD program in the field of Education;

- Recommendation letter(s) and other relevant documents.
Remark 1: Documents proving the completion of academic degrees or diplomas, or registration in a study cycle leading to the academic degree, may be dispensed with during the application stage, being replaced by a declaration of honour by the candidates. However, the verification of those documents will be mandatory if the fellowship is obtained.
Remark 2: The academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require recognition by a Portuguese Institution according to Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16th, and Decree no. 33/2019, of January 25th. The presentation of the recognition of foreign academic degrees and the conversion of the final classification to the Portuguese classification scale is mandatory to sign the contract. Under regular terms, if the recognition documents are not presented three months after the disclosure of the fellowship approval, the fellowship will not be granted.
