Offer Description
A tender is hereby opened for the award of 1 Research Grant(s) (RG) under project CREATE - Creathons for Real-world Education and Applied Societal Transformation in Europe, reference 2025-1-SE01-KA220-HED-000365204, of Department of Communication and Art, under the following conditions:
- Scientific Area: Sciences and Technologies of Communication.
- Financing Source Erasmus+ (*)
- Admission Requirements:
- 3.1 Students enrolled in master(**)
- 3.2 Select an option Multimedia, Communication and Web Technologies
- Other Requirements: Undergraduate degree in Multimedia and Communication Technologies, Computer/Software Engineering or related field, and currently enrolled in a Master’s programme in the scientific field of Communication Sciences and Technologies (or related). Candidates must have academic and/or professional experience in full-stack web application development, with a predominant focus on backend. The candidate must be motivated and able to work within a multidisciplinary and international team. Communication skills, fluency in English, and experience in research and publication in the scientific field (including involvement in the development of solutions based on backend technologies such as Node.js, PHP/Laravel, Python or similar, in relational/non-relational databases, and also in frontend technologies such as React and Vue.JS) are preferred qualities and, as such, highly valued. Skills in the design and implementation of APIs, database modelling, systems integration and the analysis of performance and scalability of web solutions are also desirable. Proof of enrolment must be provided by the time the scholarship contract is signed.
- Eligibility: Applicants are eligible if they comply with paragraph a) of no.1 of article 2, of the Research Fellow Statute in the wording given by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of August 28th, and also the provisions of article 9 of the Scientific Research Grant Regulations of the University of Aveiro.
- Work plan: The implementation of the planned activities requires full-stack development of the project’s main output, with a greater focus on the backend component. The grant holder will be required to design and implement the solution’s data architecture and business logic, including the design of the databases and their respective access APIs, whilst ensuring data security, integrity and performance. They must also implement responsive and interactive web interfaces based on the prototypes developed, using technologies such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript, or modern frameworks such as React or Vue.js, ensuring seamless integration between the front-end and the back-end services developed. The scholarship holder will be responsible for deploying the entire solution into production and maintaining it.
- Applicable legislation and regulations: Research Fellow Statute, as amended by Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of August 28th; Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro, Regulation No. 292/2020, published in Diário da República No. 61, Series II, of March 26th; Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th (Legal regime of recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of higher education awarded by foreign higher education institutions).
- Workplace: The work will be carried out at the Department of Communication and Art of the University of Aveiro, under the scientific supervision of Professor/Doctor Catarina Franco Lélis da Cruz.
- Duration of the grant(s): The grant duration will be 9 months, starting on the 1st of January 2027, and may be renewed for additional periods of 6 months, up to the maximum limit of approved funding. Under no circumstances shall it exceed the limits defined in nos. 5 and 6 of article 9, of Regulation no. 292/2020, of February 28th, published in Diário da República, no. 61, Series II, of March 26th (Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro).
- Amount of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the grant corresponds to €1090.98, according to the table of values of monthly maintenance allowances, set out in Appendix III of the Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro, subject to any updates that may occur and are applicable. The fellow may also be reimbursed for the amount corresponding to the Voluntary Social Security, in case of adherence to this plan (***)
- Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be the following: applications' evaluation and interview. Based on the review of applications, the five candidates with the highest scores will be selected for interview. The review of applications will focus on the candidate’s academic profile, qualifications and experience in the field, whilst the interview will focus on aspects of the application that require further clarification, with the respective value of 20 points, weighted at 60% and 40% respectively.
- Composition of the Selection Jury: Chair: Dr Catarina Franco Lélis da Cruz (DeCA, UA); full members: Dr Telmo Eduardo Miranda Castelão da Silva (DeCA, UA) and Dr David Manuel Duarte Oliveira (DeCA, UA); alternative members: Dr Mónica Sofia Lopes Aresta (DeCA, UA) and Dr Vânia Neves Marques Carlos (DEP, UA).
- Deadline for applications (not be less than 10 working days) and how to submit applications: The call is open from 04 09-2026 to 18-09-2026, and only applications submitted within the deadline will be admitted. Applications must be formalized by sending a letter of application accompanied by the following documents: CV, academic qualifications' certificate, portfolio, motivation letter and other supporting documents deemed relevant. They shall also indicate the e-mail address to which by such indication they accept to be notified for all purposes within this procedure. Applications should be sent by e-mail to. lelis@ua.pt
- Form of publication/notification of results: The results of the evaluation shall be made public no later than 60 working days after the closing date for submission of applications and shall be notified to the applicants. The candidates are informed, in a prior hearing, under the terms established in the Code of Administrative Procedure, of the probable meaning of the final decision, and may, within 10 working days of this notification, express their opinion on this decision. The final results may be appealed to the Rector, to be submitted within 10 working days from the respective notification.
- Tender duration: The final ranking list of candidates will be valid until 15-02-2027 for the purpose of constituting a reserve list for selection.

The proof of enrolment must be made available until the contract is awarded, and the candidate may attach a declaration of honor to confirm that they meet the requirements for enrolment in an integrated master's degree, master's or doctoral program or in a course that does not confer an academic degree. If the qualification has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution it must be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, under the terms of the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16th, which approves the legal regime of recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of Higher Education, attributed by foreign higher education institutions, and of paragraph e) of no. 2 of article 4 of Decree-Law no. 60/2018, of August 3rd, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the date of the hiring act.
***Note: Depending on the case, the grant may also include other components, namely tuition fees for grants associated with obtaining an academic degree or diploma up to the maximum amount provided for therein in the table in Appendix III of Regulation 292/2020.
