Research Grants Manager - Maternity Cover

As Research Grants Manager for the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine (CVMed), you will provide strategic oversight and operational management to the Department’s research grants portfolio and wider research finance activity. CVMed manages a large and complex research portfolio, with many awards exceeding £1M in value. The Department oversees a broad range of complex clinical and international studies, requiring management of multiple currencies, varied spending profiles, and complex partnership arrangements across a diverse range of funders and sponsors. The portfolio includes awards from major UK and international charities, government funders, industry partners, EU programmes, and other global sponsors, each with distinct financial regulations, reporting requirements, compliance obligations, and contractual terms.

As a pivotal member of our friendly team of Administrative professionals, you will be responsible for ensuring the Department continues to deliver an efficient, professional and responsive research support service. You will oversee the full lifecycle or research awards across the Department, including grant applications, supplements, no-cost extensions, internal funding calls, award management, and grant close-down activity. As Research Grants Manager, you will also support the administration of collaboration agreements and research-related contracts whilst working closely with colleagues across Research Services, Research Accounts, Finance, and external partners.

The role includes line management responsibility for the Senior Grants Officer and Grants Officer, with responsibility for setting priorities, supporting staff development, and fostering a positive and collaborative team culture. You will work closely with colleagues across the Finance and Personnel teams to support effective operational delivery and continuous improvement across the Department’s professional services functions.

About you

You will be educated to degree level, or hold equivalent professional experience relevant to research grants management, research administration, or finance. Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage a high-volume and varied workload, and prioritise competing demands whilst maintaining high levels of accuracy and attention to detail are essential. Experience of research grants management within the higher education sector, alongside knowledge of the medical research finding landscape will be an advantage.

This is a full-time appointment on a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover contract. The post holder will be based at the John Radcliffe Hospital site, Oxford OX3 9DU, and the Centre for Human Genetics, Oxford OX3 7BN. There will be flexibility for some remote working, appropriate to the role and subject to agreement.

This post may also be offered as a secondment opportunity.
