A position as a Research Investigator is available to study influenza mutation rate change over time and epistatic interactions within the influenza polymerase complex in the laboratory of Dr. Adam Lauring at the University of Michigan Medical School.
Highly motivated candidates with a Ph.D. in virology, immunology, cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or genetics are encouraged to apply. Strong evidence of scholarly ability (publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals) is expected. Knowledge and advanced productivity in chemical biology and biochemistry is sought, with training in the successful investigation RNA-protein interactions and RNA virus replication. The successful applicant will be skilled in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry and chemical biology and will have worked on mechanisms of influenza mutation rate change over time and epistatic interactions within the influenza polymerase complex. This individual will exhibit success in taking the lead with a team of investigators.
The successful candidate will join a well-established team of diverse researchers and will have the opportunity to develop independent research projects. Previous trainees in the laboratory have become independent faculty members at research and teaching universities and senior scientists in pharmaceutical companies.
