Today's UC Irvine Stem Cell Research Center is a dynamic center encompassing a diverse array of interdisciplinary investigators that span the schools of Medicine, Biological Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering, Arts and Law. Our state-of-the-art, LEED Platinum certified research and clinical building houses 25 of our 65 center faculty members. Center faculty have obtained more than $180 million dollars in grant funds from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM). Our research programs also include National Institutes of Health (NIH)-sponsored P30 and T32 training grants, state of the art shared equipment, research services programs and a variety of science events such as seminar series and annual symposium.

The SCRC has undergone major expansion and reorganization over the past 5 years, including infusion of $52 million in new grant funding from CIRM in support of infrastructure, training, basic and clinical research programs. New programs have been established in our core laboratory/shared resources (including multiple new high-end instruments), clinical research and clinical trials, workforce development and training programs, community outreach and other areas. This growth is anticipated to continue over the next several years. This position will provide critical support for our faculty and leadership to continue to prepare and submit high quality proposals to maintain this growth trajectory.

Your Role on the Team

Under general supervision, the incumbent is responsible for the preparation and submission of federal, state and private contracts and grants as well as other extramural funds proposals including infrastructure and training grants that support multiple research and instructional programs within the Stem Cell Research Center (SCRC).

Incumbent will prepare draft and final budgets, budget justifications, and various proposal documents, perform data entry and document uploads into grant submission platforms including Kuali Coeus, Cayuse, ProposalCentral, CIRM GMS, and NIH ASSIST. This individual will organize and lead regular monthly and ad hoc proposal preparation working meetings, provide project management support for multi-investigator proposals, and help propel themed research groups to proposal submissions. They will collect, collate, and archive a proposal/award library and boilerplate/template documents, and work with other units including GMP and Alpha Clinic teams to facilitate content incorporation into proposals for submission.

Other duties may include support for pre- and post-award management for clinical trial proposals and awards, for department purchasing needs, expansion of the role to provide post-award (fiscal officer role) support, and other duties as assigned.

Required:

• Ability to manage a high volume of transactions.
• Ability to perform moderately complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
• Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
• Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization; communication skills; and a customer service focus.
• Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
• Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
• Knowledge of grant funding processes, procedures and techniques.
• Writing skills to draft persuasive text for variety of audiences.
• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
• 2-4 years of relevant experience

Preferred:

• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local, sponsor and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelines.
• Knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
